This seems to be a hard one to find... A messy home grind but luckily the owner left a few remnants of the inscription Razz Classic Klaas throughout, but with the small makermark they only used on Rohms. The tang is typical Klaas with the double arrow forge mark.

Here's the strange part though, the motto placement is similar to Eickhorn Rohms which is further from the crossguard than the standard Klaas M33. Anyone else have one of these for comparison, can't find any in past posts...

Nice score Gary. Lots to like about this one. The placement of the etch on both sides looks correct.
This is a rare rare dagger. It would be the perfect addition for someone who really appreciates Klaas product :>
Congrats! I'm happy for you.

Paul, I've heard once a Klaas man... always a Klaas man Cool

I really had no idea that these were that uncommon... I think there are a few members here that have this small logo model, would love to see some other pics Wink

Other than in Witty's Bible, I've only seen 1............ Tommy Elliott turned it up a year ago and didn't realize what it was until I mentioned it to him.

Red,

That's a lovely dagger, and a real bonus with the remnants of the Rohm dedication !

JR,

I managed to snag Tommy's dagger after missing it first time round (got it off Brian). I've seen two others, a friend of mine has one that has been placed in a chained scabbard and I saw another one about 8 years ago at the Pudsey arms fair in Leeds but it was in very poor condition so I passed on it.

That Klaas was under 2K before I let the cat out of the bag, when Tommy 1st turned it. ............ Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Then they raised it another 2K and offered it to me again......... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Ole Tommy was always pulling those tricks. Called me once from Dallas wanting to know if I wanted to buy a Himmler dagger for $2500. I told him yup, get it and I'll send him the $$ straight away. Well he got the dagger and said that he was going to keep it in his collection. A month later he sent the piece to me to consign for 7K and I could have my usual 10%. What a rascal! still shouldn't complain, looks very nice up close and personal Wink

I had to get back on ole Tommy and his bag of tricks, so I concocted a story that this veterans widow call me on my ad one day and this is what I came home with............ Drove him crazy as from that day foward as he never knew when I was yanking him, and when I wasn't. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

JR - You are math guy.....most of us have never seen one, you have seen one and the book one. So, we know at least three were made.

Rough guess, using frequency / rarity stats how many do you figure Klaas made? 100? Must have been a pretty small order put in by Rohm.
Posted By: Serge (aka Wagner) Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/06/2007 12:13 AM
According to Fisher Reference: "estimate for production quantity for Rohm SS dagger inscription for Robert Klaas - 900 pieces".

Are my eyes getting older than I thought or is that larger than the normal close to the crossguard small motto Klass?

After standing on my head and looking at the photo upside down in the same position as my photo, I can see it takes up the same amount of blade space. Close ups must be hard for me. Sorry.
Posted By: RHanson Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/08/2007 02:51 AM
Another question. According to the Wittmann ss party handbook Klass Rohms came with both the large and small maker marks. Does the Fischer reference number of 900 go for both types or ?
Posted By: Serge (aka Wagner) Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/08/2007 03:40 AM
Makes no reference between "large" or "small" company logo. However, many collectors have said that these numbers are to be applied "liberally". Since there seems to be no factory records that state, that I'm aware of,
that XXX ammount of daggers will be manufactured with the "Rohm dedication" as per contract. Cool
Where Fisher got these figures, maybe Gailen or JR can enlighten us? Big Grin Wink :cool

RHanson,
Any sign on your small motto of any remnant of a Rohm dedication?

RHanson

Would love to see more pics of the 2 daggers together, makes for a good comparison.

I find it strange that Klaas produced Rohms with both large and small trademarks, given they made so few over such a short period. The reasoning as to why there are several TMs on Eickhorn Rohms makes sense since they had a massive order, is there logic behind why Klaas did this?

Nice pair you have there Smile

Mine appears to be a factory re-grind since the back cross grain is just a little coarser than the front and the back blade spline has just a little waviness to it.
Posted By: Trigger Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/08/2007 10:57 PM
Red,

The only logic is that the big makermarks "crowd" the blade..
I guess they soon saw that, and made the change to the smaller & closer to the crossguard logo.(just like Eickhorn).

Cheers,

Nice stash Tor-Helge Razz That's the first full Rohm Klaas I've seen.

What is the motto position on your Klaas Rohm, also on yours R Hanson? Would love to see some pics... Mine is further down the blade than a standard M33.

Here is motto position compared to non-Rohm Klass.

Robin,

Does the Klass Rohm with a trademark farther down the blade have the regular trademark or the small one ?

Dave
Posted By: RHanson Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/10/2007 02:52 AM
Dave,

The Klass Rohm is the one with the small trademark and the motto farther away from the crossguard (grip is not as dark as the other too). The other is a standard Klass non-Rohm.
Posted By: A J Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/15/2007 05:34 PM
I notice that the motto is spaced differently on the two daggers shown above
Recently Dave H stated the end of Treue should be 25 mm or so from the crossguard as in the dagger on the left the one on the right is further away
I have a ground Rohm by Eickhorn and the gap between Treue and the crossguard is 35mm ie similar I suspect to Robins right hand dagger
How cast in stone is the 25mm dimension?
Posted By: Dave Re: Klaas SS Ground Rohm - 05/15/2007 08:34 PM
If you dig back further I think I have said that my observation is on SS Rohm daggers.

The motto nominally ends 25mm from the lower crossguard. Actually, it can vary 1mm or so either way. The exceptions that I know of:

1. On the daggers with an exclamation point (K&M, Jacobs, M7/29, and 324) it is the exclamation point which is nominally 25mm from the crossguard.

2. On Eickhorn small trademark SS Rohms and Himmler daggers, the motto nominally ends 35mm from the crossguard.

It appears that Klass may have displaced the motto to 35mm on their small trademark daggers the same way as Eickhorn.

Has anyone measured SA Rohms ?

Dave

Thanks Dave you put my mind at rest as my ground Rohm Eickhorn SS is the small trademarked type and the motto is 35mm from the crossguard
