Gailen,
Does the MM appear to have the appropriate distance to the lower crossguard?

Those pre-34 hangers are a blast. There were tons of variations of these hangers. The SS Officals were unimpressed and in 1934 standardized them.

thanks guys ,ive had this a long time and am wondering about valuation these days, from a collectors eye not dealers asking price , can anybody give us a rough guess please ,thanks in advance .
Posted By: Skyline Drive Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 04/27/2007 10:52 PM
Rough guess $6000-$7500 US. Maybe more to the right buyer.
Posted By: Grumpy Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 04/27/2007 11:57 PM
Great dagger. Crazy about the grinding - very thorough. Also, the gray background in the etching is nice to see. Typical of this maker. I don't believe I have ever seen a fake "Hammesfahr" Rohm dagger, but there's always the first time. This one looks as good as they come.
Posted By: mustang Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 04/28/2007 02:34 PM
thanks guys esp the valuation, i have a daughters wedding to pay for shortly so this may be comming on the market soon. ive had this just about thirty years ,so will loose daughter and great dagger in one go ,but heck i`ll gain a son in law ....option two is keep the dagger and run !!

run run fast!

wifes sussed me out and put out a stop to my running, shes nicked my mustang keys !!!!! so this will have to be sold very soon ....need to work out shipping fees and bank stuff first ....unless anyone can send duplicate keys for a 98 gt mustang to uk.

nickn,

Do us all a favor and tell us why you say "run".

Dave
Posted By: Jon Fish Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 04/29/2007 10:08 PM
Dave, because Mustang says thats his option 2, take the dagger and run.[So he doesn't have to pay for his daughters wedding and sacrifice his dagger]
Its humour Wink

Suggest you become a premium member for $30 so you can place it in the "For Sale" forum. If you try to sell it on Ebay it is almost certain to get pulled.
Posted By: Gailen David Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 04/30/2007 08:45 PM
Yes, this is not the place to seek a buyer or promote the sale of the dagger. If it was I would be advertising my own stuff on this thread.

I think he wants to sell it as is, no returns, because of paying for a wedding.

Yes, DR. John I got that part. But his opening bid is $6,300! Confused With no return and or inspection period. Eek
Now is that me, or is the buyer saying "hey, it's good OK?! Trust ME!" Wink Sounds like a real tall order here... But he accepts paypal. Big Grin
It looks like a good dagger. I like the hanger. Hope he sells it. But the odds are it will be pulled before he gets a bid.
I still can't understand why he can't sell it here? Or let someone like JR. to broker it?

hi guys, i was going to list in on here in the for sale section,i upgraded my account by paying the dollars ,infact i accidentally paid twice. its just the rule for five day inspection period that i cant meet. i cant sell the dagger, ship it half way around the world for somebody to realise they needed their cash for a holiday or something and want to send it back. so im weeks of time wasted and the risk of shipping two or three times.
the pics give enough for anybody who has that sort of cash to have to know what theyre looking at , and form an opinion off them. in my 30 years of collecting i have never asked for a five day or any day inspection period.....i look at a dagger...i think about it for maybe days after having taken all details, i then buy it if im happy, but dont if not...never have asked for an inspection period after buying one. infact i think most of people i used to deal with here in uk when i bought this would have laughed at me. im a private individual not a dealer and cant afford to be mucked about, i trully wouldnt be selling this if my daughter wasnt getting married, deposits are already being paid on venue, service, catering, photographer etc, so i need to sell.
i do take paypal for the convenience of both myself and buyer, itll cost me but ive had payments made in past for smaller stuff where moneygrams etc have been sent that i couldnt cash ,wire transfer bank fees that have cost me as much as paypal does.i do also take the wire transfer so long as fees are paid at buyer end.
i think we all know how rare this is ,and whover buys will in acouple of years have a $10000 dagger that wont be replaceable.
my start price is really what id call my reserve, ebay wanted another $45 to put a reserve on it at that, so i thought hell,if you cant start at that then the reserve is not gonna be met anyhow ....and this dagger is not for `tyre kickers` ,you gotta be a serious collector and have the cash.

so, there you go ....honest and upfront in all of it,

do you like the pics then,
mustang

Fellows, all I said was it looked good from the pictures. I'm happy that no one bought the dagger based on what I said. I mean, I didn't even examine the piece.

Also, I would not buy an expensive dagger without a return policy. The return policy shouldn't be that big of a deal, wedding or no wedding.

Posted By: mustang Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 05:42 PM
guys i didnt want to start anything here ,, you gave me advice and i thanked you for it ,as i say i was going to list here ,.....sometimes people have different rules and im affraid that inspection period is not an option after buying . its on ebay ,a place where a lot of the major dealers buy from ,then add their percentage, then sell on to all , and forum guys. i know they can offer inspection periods but hell theyre a business, and have $100K worth of stock ....obviously & have $60000 dollars in their bank ,whereas i havent, ive got a daughter and wife building up bills etc.

ive thanked all that have given help on this ,but i am being totally honest if you cant buy off the extra pics im offering in detail (and have any members requested ?),and will do any angle, any request you want except strip it down, because it hasnt been in all those years and im not gonna do it. you want to come and inspect before bidding then you are welcome....i know theres a lot of uk guys on this forum , maybe you can come and inspect on behalf of other members....ill travel to meet you within reason ,hows that ???....you guys get together...come up with questions, request pics, ask a uk member to come and inspect and ill help anyway i can.
if its not for you ...then its not for you,

i again repeat thanks to those that have helped me on this

and it was a big deal me buying this 30 years ago nearly ....when i was on 11 a week and i had to borrow off family and payback weekly ....it wasnt cheap then...if a serious collector is looking for one to buy then look ,ask,if an inspection period is not that big a deal....then neither is an air ticket to manchester airport compared to the price of the dagger, ill meet you at the airport....come and have an inspection.

we all know this is a rare beast ,mustang
Posted By: Gailen David Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 05:49 PM
It's OK for me to take a chance based on my knowledge. It's my risk and not anyone elses. I don't like stories about the background on daggers or any other Third Reich collectable. When I'm buying them. Unless I reaaly know the seller, I'm hardly listening. A piece should stand on its own merit. Opinions are like you know what, everyone has one.

Posted By: Gailen David Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 05:56 PM
One more thing. I didn not say anything when it was apprasied by someone at $6000 or was it $6500. I think this price is high for a SS Parital Rohm. That may be the reason no one is jumping on it quickly. Especially with a repainted scabbard.

Posted By: Serge (aka Wagner) Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 06:26 PM
Well this is getting more interesting. Now nobody can even get a photo of the tang on a 7K no return dagger.. Roll Eyes Eek Razz
-wagner-
Posted By: mustang Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 06:44 PM
ok ok , we all have our opinions on my dagger, can i ask you wagner...would you undo that nut ,and risk tapping off that top crossguard, wood grip and bottom crossguard....risking chipping the grip ,what if i could show the tang.....what you looking for if the rest of it is that good ....`made in germany ` perhaps.
have you never bought a dagger that doesnt strip, they were made that way to be assembled 60 years ago....not stripped down 60 years later,
so you buy a dagger off one of the big dealers, they offer inspection period....but do state that if the dagger has been stripped down in that period then any warranty is nul and void because of the risk doing it and causing damage.....if it dont strip readily....dont try. look at the pics...look at the fit.....you think im going to split that ?.
Posted By: Gailen David Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 06:54 PM
Mustang: Don't take the dagger apart! A guy who knows his stuff will know in a few mintues if it's good. There is chance you may damage the grip. Just my opinion.

Gailen David
Posted By: mustang Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 06:57 PM
thankyou Gailen
Posted By: Serge (aka Wagner) Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 07:45 PM
No I wouldn't strip it either, if it was never touched.. It's just takes a "Leap of Faith" from photos supplied to a potential buyer on a 7K dagger, with no return, and no photos of the blade tang.
Now experts like Gailen, JR, and a couple of other guys don't need to break it down to see tang formation, billet clamp marks, markings etc. But, I know these guys and, I think I can safely say, that I don't think they will be scampering to buy this dagger. I may be wrong, that's just what I think. Wink
Now that leaves us with the rest of us "potentials" who might have to ability to buy this dagger since they don't have a partial, name only, Hammesfahr ground Rohm, in their collection. However if I was going to pay the "Big Ticket" on a Rohm anything, I would not consider it without Gailen's inspection and approval..But that's me. And I believe that most of the collectors besides the above few, would want JR, TW, or TW to check it out. I mean lets face it..7K is a lot of money!
I am not knocking your dagger. I'm just questioning your maketing and terms of sale. That's all.
Look I buy on eban too. So do most of the guys here. There always there, with me, in the "private auctions" being held by disgruntled
sellers of pulled listings. On the good stuff.
The're probably waiting for it to be pulled so they can be making offers of $2500 on it "just to help you out". This is the real world. The way your going about it is "fantasy".
Now, if Gailen or JR were brokering your dagger,
you would have a chance of selling it. And we would be looking at it in a different light.
Regards,
-wagner-

What I want to know is how JR Made the list? Ha! Ha! Cool

Gailen David
Posted By: JR Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/06/2007 08:14 PM
That's the problem of giving an analysis over the internet as well as price for any item. I don't belive that the dagger will sell any where close to that $7500 number that it's listed for, as Lakeside sold a nice Boker Partial recently with a repainted scabbard that was comparable for 4K. A few other major dealers have listed partial SS Rohms for 5-6K in the last 24 months as well. On this Hammesfahr, which by the way was a company that you see a variety of differerent style crossguards, grip shapes, grip runes and eagles etc, it's hard to nail this down just from the photos that we see. The scabbard has definitely been re-painted. The motto etch is different from the mint Hamesfahr that I have in front of me. But none of that holds any water as the dagger need to be evaluated on it's own.

Well....There's good news and bad news.
Bad news is: Mustang's dagger did not get a single bid on e-bay. Not surprising. Wink
The good news is: it made it all the way through a ebay auction without being pulled! A rarity for SS dagger for sure. Smile
What's next?

Posted By: Anonymous Re: ss partial rohm opinions please - 05/13/2007 11:07 AM
I'm not surprised either. It sure looks like a desirable dagger - I belive the discussion on this website confirms that. But to offer someting for sale with no warranty / return policy and no inspection period is setting onself up for a No Bid result on ebay.
His starting price was too high too.
He should have just listed it here.
