Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this particular Rohm inscription is a complete fake.

The maker marked is much too high on the blade, it also has the wrong Gau mark and lastly, the inscription in itself is nothing close to an original Henckel type.
All Henckel Rohm inscriptions have a unique flaw to it and this particular inscription, does not have that unique and specific flaw.

,,only if the dagger was free or close to free.
If it stays in a case the embellishment
won't be seen.
Cheers

I agree with Pat, the Henckels Rohm is notably distinct, a very difficult maker to try and copy, as there are several factors that are unique to this maker, even within regard to their own non-Rohm SAs... Pity.

You are not the bearer of bad news,I got the bad news 2 week ago.

Now you can have the full story.
I got this dagger from a dealer 8-9 years ago and was over the moon with it, it was looked at by 2 other dealers who give the thumbs up so I really did think it was the real thing. Then 4 years ago A member on here posted 2 Henckles daggers for comparison, a standard Dagger and a full Rohm, The maker mark on the rohm looked closer to the crossguard than the standard Dagger so I asked for
some sizes and got a blunt reply saying the sizes are erelevent because different makers and things(original post still there)So I never looked at it again till 2 weeks ago when I was ill off work.I went on here and seen how many ropey Rhomes were about and thought this will have to go but what can I do with it??? So I thought the best plase to sell it would be the dealer I got it from so I emailed him asking him if he would be interested in a full rohm, reply was yes send some pics, so I did and got a reply saying sorry thats not for me. You can imagine how I felt, I paid a lot of money for this,so another email, something wrong with it mate? reply was 3 problems, and that really ****ed me off. So another email to him stating it was ok 8-9 years ago when I bought it from HIM and now its a load of junk. So I got another reply, now thats a turn up, we know more now than we knew then, send it back to me and I will give you a full refund, and he did. This dealer does not do a lot with daggers and I don't think he intended to rip me off. I am not going to mention his name as he has done the right thing, I am just glad I got out of it
YES I GOT LUCKY.

Cool,, WAY cool Mal!
Goes to show there are some good guys (dealers) out there.
I'm sure you're relieved. The dagger does have an attractive grip.
(hmmm? The price of a FR eight or nine years ago, probably about the same as today!?.)
Cheers,
Paul

So your point here was to test the competency and honesty of members on this forum?

No my point was was to let the forum know there are some honest people out there, at the end of the the day the dealer could have said he has never seen this dagger before, I paid in cash and have no recipt so no proof I got it from him.

Shame it was wrong but I'm impressed by the dealer agreeing to take it back and refund you - there are not many out there that would agree to do that after so many years.
Posted By: Terry Pullen Re: Full Rohm, did I get lucky? - 01/24/2010 01:34 PM
It'a great shame about it as, left in the scabbard, it's a wonderful looking piece.
Posted By: malla Re: Full Rohm, did I get lucky? - 01/24/2010 04:50 PM
It was a really nice Dagger.
Posted By: Luko Re: Full Rohm, did I get lucky? - 01/24/2010 07:03 PM
Yes, it WAS...
Posted By: slayer Re: Full Rohm, did I get lucky? - 01/25/2010 03:33 AM
So essentialy what would the value of this piece be now after the alteration ?
Posted By: patrice Re: Full Rohm, did I get lucky? - 01/25/2010 03:43 AM
If it had been original, it would have been worth about $ 7000 in its present condition, however, having a faked inscription, puts the value back to a common SA dagger, about $ 1000.
Glad the dealer refunded the owner of the dagger but still, quite a loss in potential gain.
