Just one question,, was the the inscription buffed and not the rest of the blade.
also i am not comfortable with a some of the lettering on both sides of the blade One letter is very obvious on the motto. IMO both sides are questionable.
The lower crossguard is not a true Pack guard as it does not have the S within a horseshoe logo. I would rather be safe than sorry if it was myself buying this. It doesnt bother me to miss out on a good deal, and it happens that way sometimes,, but I dont like getting kicked in the A** either except by myself if made a mistake! regards Larry

Larry,i'm a little confused.
What do you mean: it does not have the S within a horseshoe logo.
Can you please show us some picture?

Hi Stingray,, before this gets too out of control and I put my foot in my mouth, We all know that dagger makers especially the larger ones like Eickhorn and Pack bought their parts from the outside AND AND also made them in house! I will post the logo in question tomorrow night as I dont have this on file,, unless someone else beats me to it. But I will post anyway!!
The description of the foundry mark inside a Pack Crossguard has a wreath shaped like a horseshoe and the letter S within it. This is common to see on "early Pack daggers only"
So again let me reiterate that just because it does not have this foundry mark doesnt mean its not Authentic Pack. It could very well be Authentic to the dagger but when supply and demand came knocking these makers needed to look elsewhere to make their production quota.
My statement about the crossguard is authentic and may very well belong to that dagger BUT its not a genuine Pack Crossguard. I know Dave H. is gonna beat me up on this. Then again Pack may as well have made some crossguards without this logo as we know the Pack crossguard has that almost straight across look to it. I am sorry I wish I could post it now, but the hour is late but I will photo it. Regards Larry

Here are a couple of photos of the Pack crossguards. As you can see in the 2nd photo there is the logo I was mentioning about. The upper crossguard is marked with an "H" and a dot!
I felt this was the best distance to photograph this guard. A close up of the logo lost all its detail so I will post this one as this is more descriptive. The "S" within the horseshoe is visible. Larry

Thanks Larry
That's very interesting.
I thought the Pack cross guard are with P.A. and O V markings only, which I found in Fisher Quick Reference book.
Thanks for showing it to us.

Stingray

IMO The Rohm inscription is a reproduction.

It looks like to me also that the blade has been seriously fooled around with. Especially when the relatively unblemished looking (repolished) portion of the blade and inscription is compared with the TM area to its right. FP

I would like to add that I do agree that certain makers must have certain crossguards.

... or Runes buttons or eagles laugh
