Gentlemen,

I've recently received these 2 daggers from a good freind of mine that has been collecting for many years. He bought these 2 daggers many years ago and back then, there was no internet and hardly any reference books on the subject.
It was a tough world and you really had to rely on your gout feeling.
I know the Eickhorn to be 100% original because it does match every known "textbook" Rohm dagger that I've seen ( including mine that was authenticated by Gailen David last year ).
However, you can see for yourself that the E.Pack does not fit any of the Eickhorn's characteristics. Both inscriptions are completely different. Not a single letter is the same.
Here's my question : was there more than 1 type of template for these ? Could there be 2 completely different Rohm's inscription ? I always thought that all Rohms were identical ?
If not, then the E.Pack be a fake ?
Sadly enought, both daggers were bought at a antique shop many moons ago from an unknown source. Frown

In the first picture, the E.Pack is on top and the Eickhorn down below.

The Eickhorn is on TOP and the E.Pack is down below.
As you can notice, every letter from the inscription are different.

As far as I know there is only one correct inscription. The line thickness may vary a bit
but not the drawing of the letters. That what Stephens says and if he is correct then that signature or maybe the whole blade or? is post-war

I did not even see what you siad about the incriptions and yes they are different I thought there was only one way the inscriptions were etched. That would definitly make the Pack suspect, maybe that why the conditions so good. Confused

Pat: I believe the Pack piece to be a fake.

Thank you Gailen.
Someone was kind enought to send me, via e.mail, a copy of Stephen's book on "Reproduction". We can clearly see that on page 43, there's a reproduction blade being illustrated by E.Pack and it is the same identical blade as the one being shown here.
It has the same flaws, the horizontal line that connects the "T" in the word Ernst with the line that meets the "R" in the word Rohm.
This is only one example among many.
If someone could post the page 43 from Stephen's book, it would really be nice.
Thanks !

Thanks !
We can clearly see the same flaws as the blade being shown at the bottom of the page.
Also, notice the letter "m" in the word Rohm.
The fake "m" as a much rounder top as compared to the sharper "m" on the real blade.

It's out of print now. You need to search military and book websites, along with auction websites such as eBay. Maybe a member here has a copy for sale...

Craig can usually root out a copy somwhere. I would email him.

The appear somewhat regularly on ebay as reprints for $100-$150 or so.

Hurricane... Craig's website is:

http://www.craiggottlieb.com/main.asp

Although he doesn't have one listed at the moment.

You could always become a paid member which would allow you to place a "wants ad" in the forum.

Make sure you buy the SECOND EDITION and not the first.First edition is much cheaper and not as much info. Cool

When is the third edition due? I would be reluctant to pay $195 for a second edition if the third one is about to come out.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the Third edition. I'm sure, even if it does get published, it will be a few years down the road. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Thanks sdp etc for help on this book

Gailen is correct. We're working slowly on the 3rd edition, but there is so much to cover, we are taking our time. I have several 2nd editions in stock if anybody needs one.
