I must correct my statement slightly.

The dagger is a period dagger from Aesculap. Only the inscription is a fake WinkBig Grin

OK, serious now.

Without even seeing the inscription on this dagger in question, any experienced collector can tell you that it is a fake.

Aesculap honor daggers with the Rhm inscription have ALWAYS a smaller makers mark, which is closer to the crossguard compared to the larger makers mark of a regular service dagger from Aesculap.

Check this picture. On the left and on the right you can see two Aesculap honor daggers. The left one is a partial ground Rhm honor dagger, the right is fully ground from Aesculap. Check the location of the makers mark and the size compared to the one on the regular Aesculap service dagger in the middle Wink

So, how come that the full Rhm which is offered by Weitze has the wrong makers mark?

Hmmm, hard to believe that such a big dealer is not aware about this Roll Eyes

Amazing Aesculap Dagger Collection!! Now THAT is a Dedicated Collection.

Aesculap Medical Instruments are still made today, and are one of the TOP Choices for both European and US Surgeons (With probably SYNTHES Instruments from Switzerland - and some German sub-contracted / made Instruments, being the 1st choice, IMO.)

Aesculap was one of those 'strange' Companies in WWII, which made both DAGGERS and Surgical Instruments!! ....Txs, for the Visual Treat of Aesculap-ians!!!
Best... Dave/dblmed

OK... Just for FUN and also for the Educational Value of Collecting - perhaps the following are the ONLY Aesculap "Blades" which are yet missing from your Wonderful Collection! Wink

These are from a WWII Aesculap Surgical Tray which I purchased a few years ago. Wonderful quality! (As expected)

The Same, or near the Same AESCULAP Logo. .... Txs, Dave/dblmed

A dealer with long years of expereance?
Posted By: 777 Re: Full Rhm For sale - 04/25/2009 06:41 PM
Yes. Sad but true. It was just a couple of months ago, when there was a baaad fake Herder, fullest Rhm of course,to buy for 6500 euros Roll Eyes . Only the logo contained such basic mistakes like wrong (but similar) font type, the same as the one in red frame (posted by Redbaron) http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/...270041883#8270041883

It's hard to tell if Herr Weitze is aware of that, or he's got just a poor edged weapon specialist in his staff.

This is NOT the first time....I would NOT buy anything from that site...good or not..He knows
I would bet its his name on the site.

It seems that we hear that one a lot lately. Of course only when they get caught on the forums:

1. I been on a buying trip. This one slipped by my staff.

2. Wow! Thanks guys it slipped past me!

3. heads are gonna roll on this one.

4. It's a Rohm maker logo variant. You guys need to get more experienced before you know what your talking about! Big Grin

That is a very original and impressive collection ivbaust: 14 Aesculap SA's! Just wonderful!

Did they make any other 3R daggers?

Best greetings,

Herman

Thanks, Herman.

Heres another picture from my "Aesculap collection". From left to right:

- SA dagger (Aesculap produced regular service dagger and Rhm honor daggers)
- Long dress bayonet
- Short dress bayonet
- WW1 trench knife

All edged weapons from Aesculap carry the caduceus (crowned snake around a pole) as makers mark.

Dave,
Thanks for the nice pics of the surgical field instrument set. Smile
