Does anyone know which maker the MM "48" belonged to on imperial crosses? I've got a Bavarian style medal bar with an EK2 MM 48 on the ring.

Tom, in all probability it is a WWII period produced Imperial EKII with that maker mark of 48 for Richard Feix, Gablonz. Imperial marks were usually a letter code such as, A, AWS, Fr, G, KO etc.
Any sign of frosting to the beading?

Thank you for the info. I do recall that now that you mention it. It's certainly a WW2 issue medal bar, and clearl the "Hindenburg" for combatants is post '34. I sort of assumed the bearer had moved his original EK2 to the medal bar.

This one has no frosting at all. Just oxidized patina on all 4 arms. The combatant cross is also marked on the backside of the lower arms bottom. Can't recall what it's marked with, but I do know it has three alpha characters.

I should also point out that preceeding the "48" stamp, barely visible is a 2 character stampe, about 1/4" ahead of the 48. I can't exactly make it out, but it looks like the 1st character is the letter "L". The second character is completely illegible. I've researched and found LV and LW were stampings on the 1914s, but nothing with a combo and an additional numeric stamping of 48.

This is the absolute best I could do...and i'm surprised it turned out ok. My camera is a middle of the road piece from a a few years back.

Tom it looks like LV 48 that would make it a here to, unnoted Imperial maker mark. I have not seen any of the recorded LV numbered maker marks so I do not know how they appear, spaces or not.

Thank you Joe. With this particular makers code, would it be safe to assume that the cross was actually made during the Imperial Era, as opposed to the TR era as a replacement for the medal bar?

I have seen LV 26 listed as a maker but first for the other ones. Thanks for listing them Joe and Tom for showing yours. A very nice display, by the way.

I would guess Imperial or Weimar untill we know more.

according to the book THE IRON TIME the letter and number configuation LV is to a single maker.

Paul, does the book claim who the maker is? To my knowledge LV and LV with numbers are unknown.
