I did a search for mp-40 modelguns on E-Bay and came up with a number of "all metal" airsoft and paintball guns, spring and electric powered. I do NOT want to spend the $350 + that people are asking for the old MPC all steel non-guns that were on the market in the 1970s, and the current ones with the plastic recievers do not appeal to me either. does anyone have any experience with the new all metal elecrit airguns? The e-bay buy it now price on many of them is under $100 and I am tempted. Would like to know if they are close copies of the originals in outward appearance and assembly and if the folding stock is reasonably sturdy.

Joe do some Google research about AIRSOFT AEG guns. There are some very high quality guns form Japan and the US.

Actually also check youtube for airsoft and you will be suprised.

Must agree that the all metal version is the best. I too have had both. Scott Bab**** may have the old style like back in the 1970's.
Must say that the MP-40 from WWII guns was a kick to put together as the manual was all in Japanese. That little problem was actually no problem as the manual has good line drawings. I of course have "Small Arms of the World" which was a useful adjunct.
I just got a new, English version of the manual from Mr Miki Nakamura the owner of WWII Guns. Very personaable gentleman.
Check out "Commander Scotty" as Bab**** likes to call himself.
Let us know what you finally decide to do please? Thanks! (BTW, the WWII MP-40 truly IS a treat to fire. Wish I had gotten more than two boxes of 9mm when I had my time to fire).

I have been following these things for a while. I owned several back in the late 60's when they could be bought and sold for $60 to $100.. Up until recently, the old MPC all metal ones were holding pretty firm at $250 to $400 at gun shows and E-Bay. Just a few days ago I noticed a whole bunch of "all Metal" airsoft mp-40 replicas on e-bay and dealer sites priced from $100 to $200, (as low as $59 + about $50 in shipping). However, I read somewhere online that none of the airsoft replicas fire reliably (especially the TOP brand, which is allegedly the most accurate copy), and also read that the Chinese are making a fairlyl reliable copy of the TOP model at about one -half the price. Unfortunately, the E-Bay ads and online stores are quite cagey about telling exactlly which model they sell, so I am hoping someone has some first hand exerience with these newer all metal airsoft guns that can help me out. I want a good looking accurate all metal replica. Blank firing and plug fire cost more than I want to spend,($350+) so airsoft is an option at $100-$200. As long as I am spending that much , I would like to know which is the better shooter. Any ideas?ThanksJoe S

The MGC 68 was the finest MP 40 replica ever made. These were all steel construction and fired a cartridge type of blank. Make sure you watch the video on the above link!
I had one but sold* it awhile ago and I wish I had it back.

If I recall correctly the old 1968 model used "plug fire" cartridges. These same things are used with the newer Marushin metal/abs model MP40. They work well and are realistic except that they are not very loud. The drawbacks are obvious though. Each cartridge must be loaded with a cap by hand. After firing you need to retrieve the brass rounds since they are pricey (which limits their usefulness to reenactors in a tactical situation). Then it is really important to empty and clean the interior of the brass expecially the small internal firing pin, since the caps are about as corrosive as anything I have encountered. They are fun though. I had 2 of those babies that I have since sold. Wish I still had them.

I had occasional similar problems. I always found it to be related to the plug fire residue building up on the internal parts. A little oil or WD40 did the trick.

Type in MP 40 or MP40 on Ebay and you will see there are suddenly several METAL airsoft full auto MP-40's on the market. For under $200.

well I broke down and bought a Chines AEG MP-40 airsoft gun, and it arrived today.
It is all metal except for plastic on the underside of the reciever where the original was bakelite. The overall appearance is excellent except for a little selector switch on the left side of the reciever for semi-auto or full auto fire. The bolt doen NOT go all the way back either, but I read online somewhere that it can be modified to do so.
the battery only has a tiny charge in it when I got it so I only got about 20 rounds off at full auto before the battery died, I am giving it a full charge now. It was fun to shoot and makes a little popping sound similar to a paintball gun. Detachable stick mag hols about 50 rounds, stock folds and locks just like the originals, rear sight folds . The buy it now price was $59 with $59 for shipping. I am very happy with it, assuming it holds up reasonably well and the battery holds a decent charge. It is every bit as good looking as the old marushins and shoots full auto for about $9 for 5,000 rounds. Joe S

I have had a chance to do more shooting with the AGM mod 007 MP-40 Schmeisser airsoft. I can shoot at least 15 magazines on one battery charge, the mags hold about 50 shots. The "effective" range is quite short, of course, but at the typical ranges for shooting pistol, say, 20 yards, you can pretty much shred a six inch bullseye with a few clips of ammo. I have run about 2,000 rounds through it and like it a lot. If you want an all-metal MP-40 non-gun but dont want to pay the big bucks for the old Marushins, this model is a very good buy for the money, which is $120 shipped. Joe S
