A novel I was reading mentioned highly polished Lugers intended for presentation.

Did such exist ?

high polished lugers for presentation use i doubt it most high polished walther models pp and ppk maybe most of them fancy engraving were for Theodre Eiche for gifts to his men just like himmler did hope this helps god bless andy militarynut

Sounds like the author didn't know too much. Highly polished to me means just a finely finished commercial production, rather than run of the mill military or such. Presentation to me means a plate or inscription of some sort to show the presentation. A noted author of Krieghoff Lugers showed some finely engraved examples in his book. Can't remember if they were inscribed. As Andy pointed out, the smaller caliber pistols were more popular, as they were easier to decorate and readily available on the commercial market. What many don't remember is that 9mm Parabellum weapons were considered instruments of war and not permitted to be owned by civilians under German law. So, Walther PPs and PPKs were engraved nicely as were some other pocket model pistols like the Sauers, Menz and others.

The context of the novel was a factory visit before the start of WWII. The fictional person was fairly important military figure, and was offered a special "highly polished" Luger. No engraving or presentation. I thought it was bullfeathers myself but wondered ...
