Ok Gents,

It has been slow on the forum lately and I am snowed in and have cabin fever. I did dig myself out yesterday to get to a gun show but found nothing that I could not live without except for a stripper clip for my new C96.

What have you picked up over the past year? Show us your best firearms find of 20009.

Here is mine...

My best find is a Mauser C96 Red nine that I have been seeking for years. It was made in 1916 and was then used by the Police during the Weimar Republic. The pistol was ****nal reworked by shortening the barrel and removing the adjustable rear sight and replacing it with a fixed version to make it into a holster gun that was acceptable by the Treaty of Versailles. It is "1920" Weimar property marked on the receiver and has Eisenbahn markings indicating it was first issued to railway protection forces. It was then transfered to the municipal police of Merseburg and has their markings on the grip strap. The holster is Imperial proofed and the strap has been altered to allow either a long or short barrel C96 to be carried.

What did you pick up this year?

Here is my best find - direct from the late veteran's son.
P640(b) w/holster
Mauser HSC w/PPK holster
French M1935A
All came in a box made especially for the pistols. Inside the lid is the capture papers listing the serial numbers of the three pistols.

Here is the box.

Here's the HP.

All three pistols were in comparable condition.

Steve, thanks for the comments on my Police Red 9. A very nice Police P.08! I would be happy with it too as I am partial to police pistols.

Denny, you got a three for one! The capture papers are just the icing on the cake. I once picked up a Walther PP with capture papers inside the holster but it came out of a metal milk can on the guy's porch. Your container is much better.

Thanks for the show-n-tell guys.

George

Come on guys! Let's keep this thread going.
Here are the other two weapons that came with the HP.
Here is the French M1935A. This one was manufactured in the spring of 1939 before the German takeover. Actually, these non-WaA marked pistols are harder to find than the German-made ones.

Here is the Mauser HSc. This being a war-time commercial piece.

Less than two weeks prior to my trifecta score shown above, I bought this HP w/holster & two clips from another son of a deceased WWII veteran who didn't want it around the house.
Not quite as nice as the one shown earlier, but still no slouch either.

This one came out of an estate auction in July '09. A nice PPK with a dynamite conditioned Akah Political Leader holster & two magazines.

WW I artillary Luger in original configuration retaining over 95% of it's original finish. This was the most notable find of the year. I'll post others when I get a chance.
N.B. Those French 35s are to me one of the most attractive designs for a military pistol. I asume most know that this pistol was the forerunner of the SIG P220.

Jim,
Your nice Luger looks to be a DWM. What year?
See you at "Show & Tell" Wednesday evening in L'ville?

Maniac,
That is one fine VIS!!

Pat, you can own the pistols with the 4" and over barrels, but no .25's and .32's..

All the Lugers with 4" barrels have been traveling south ever since Liberal Allan Rock told his caucus that his goal was the disarmament of the Canadian people.

Denny:
This is a DWM and chamber dated 1917. Condition is about as nice as you'll find on a 93 year old pistol.
I'm going to skip the SOS this year, for the first time in memory, for multiple reasons. I hope you and the rest of the firearms collectors have a great show. I hope you'll hoist one for me some evening.

Here's one of my favorites from 2009. A reichsrevolver marked Artillery Munitions Column 13, Company 5, weapon 9, as well as Landjager Korps of Wuttemberg

timboo,

A nice Reichsrevolver. These are typically pretty used up and yours is in very nice condition. I particularly like the Württ. Landjägerei markings!

Steve

2009 was a pretty quiet year for me rifle-wise. Here is a G41 that left my stable in 2009. I guess that makes the current owner eligible for "Best Firearms Find"; doesn't it?
Sorry Steve, this isn't a Walther but a BLM instead....
