How common are the Medal Citations/Certificates from the 60s and later?

The Army was not big on these if the used them at all. We got printed orders for the award of badges or low grade gongs like National Defense.

Dave is correct. I did not know there was a document for anything lower than a purple heart.
Navy must be desperate, as usual.

Do a web search by award name and you'll find these for most awards for all services. I am curious as to how often they were given out or if they had to be requested by the recipient.

I wanted out on my EDCSA! Whether I got a certificate, an order or nothing at all did not matter one bit. Still doesn't laugh

I received no cit./cert.'s in the 70's and only one cit./cert. in the mid 80's.
Perhaps it is more of an organizational decision. Whether the command shows an interest or not.

I don't know how the Navy operates. While in the Army, I and everyone I knew always received a certificate/citation with the corresponding awards, that included training certificates as well. It's a soldiers responsibility to ensure their records and microfiche is up to date.

The Navy commands I was in issued the certificates with the awards, or certificates when training was completed. Lower level certificates were usually signed by the Personnel Officer or the Training Officer. Of course, this was in Military District Washington and they liked their paperwork wink

In the mid-60's you got no certificates. I did a 36 week radar and ... nothing.

I was active duty navy 1969-73 and active reserve 1973-75. I probably have enough paper to cover a wall wink
