Rainbow Coalition Our Style:
Every so often I like to create a display of daggers that are usually stowed away:
This is a pair by one of my favorite SA makers both of which are in extremely nice condition:
The quality of the etching by this firm IMO is unsurpassed:

And, matching Tinnie
Note that the gau mark and tinnie are both from the Franken Group. I liked this tinnie so much that I bought a dagger that would match it. Hope that you enjoy.
Robert, that is a very cool tinnie.
I want to do the same with my Schliesen marked dagger. Still looking....
My one and only....
For you purists who love 'em uncleaned with nice blades and neat maker marks... here is the rest of the Carl Tillmanns from Ebay.

There are some very nice SA daggers for sure.
Tough decision but here are 3 of my favorites.
They are my favorites mainly because of the beauty of their grips.

Nothing special with this grip but it is the rarest maker marked that I've got in my collection.

Well two forum members are conspicously absent here. I think everyone would enjoy seeing some examples from Mike M and Kingtigers collection along with others. With a membership in the thousands there has to be plenty of other nice examples for display!!
Jim, when I posted my finest S/A it was bashed by someone in Europe and my photo taking skills [or lack thereof] were criticized by an American member without anything to say about my dagger! While I'm on my high horse, I posted my Chained NSKK, response, ZERO!, Posted my Chained S/S, response, 1 [thanks, reds] Enough to put me off! Regards

Leipzig:
Sorry about the bashing which IMO sounds like it was uncalled for.
Insofar as the lack of response goes many have quit making comments like "Nice dagger", "A real beauty" etc. because they are so repetitive.
That doesn't many that several members haven't looked at what you posted and enjoyed it.

Jim, Thanks! No need for you for you apologize for others, but I appreciate it! It just seems if you're "in the clique" the other "cliquee's" will dis-locate their friggen' shoulder patting you on the back, while the rest of us get a few crumbs! Maybe it's me, but I don't think so,I've read similar posts in the past. Thanks for listening!
Moderator, if you want to move this to the Community Forum please do so, since it is "off topic" Regards

And here is my Aescolupe with an interesting frog hngr. I have a few others to post when I get time to take the pics.
I didn't know that there was such a "frog type" hanger made for SA's. That's interesting.
Here's a unique hand-made frog type hanger:

Some very nice examples here. I have about 55 of these in my collection all vary in condition. I will choose a couple this week and try and get some good piccies for you. To me though each has character and a history all of its own, if only they could talk. I remember the first one I ever bought, it had been polished to hell and the tip was missing, the scabbard was dented and the ball mashed. I did not pay a lot in comparison to todays prices but I still have it in the drawer somewhere. Can anyone else remember their first purchase and do you still have it?
Keep posting those pictures, I may not make a lot of comments but I always look.
hey spock "55" how long you been collecting? i am up to 25 and that includes 3 nskk
my very 1st one was an SA by franz steinhoff it came with an rzm scabbard, didn't know at the time wouldn't make that mistake now! and yes i still have it, can't part with it even though it isnt right

Wow. Some amazing blades you all got there. Nice touch with that artificial light too Pat. Really brings out the crossgraining in the blades...
Here is my first SA! arrived today

Out of the wood!

Nice blade
Thank you Houston
Vaughan i like that very much, you done well for your first SA.and the photos are not that bad
Here is one I just picked up. A very simple RZM but in outstanding condition !
Well I fussed and dithered and in the end I dragged them out.
I call this "SAtanding to attention". A mixed bunch. I hope to complete the inverted pyramid soon as I can.......
wooah
nice collection spock beam them up to me
Spock,
No wonder there is such a meagre offering in the UK for T.R daggers, you have the whole stash. Outstanding and all in nice condition by the look of them. Do you have the McSarr list for rarity?.
Kingtiger has some opposition for the hoarding crown
.
Somehow I missed this tread, I guess the Summer and all got to me. I have been distracted with General Officer's tunics and Allach. My regular computer fried in a lightning storm and I have been using a MAC and none of my pics are on this hard drive. I will have to drag out my few meager specimens and hope for the best.
I'll be back!
Mark
Cheers guys,
Jon I do have the list and use it on all MM ones.
I have started to write my collection up and attach tags. That bunch took a while, I have started on the Lufts and I will be making a move on the Army ones once I have dragged them off to a certain person here in the UK to run his eyes across. (soon, soon). I also have a box of bayonets in the loft, which were the start of this hobby and about 30 swords. I am going to concentrate my future efforts on SA/NSKK daggers ans photo albums. I will sometime soon start to dispose of all but the best of my other collectables. Glad you like the picture, my son was laughing as they were taken from the drawer, he likened it to the Tardis.
Well! So many nice daggers were shown, that I believe some of you have more to post!
Quality daggers for us to enjoy
Thanks to all for showing!

My lonely SA. Its just an RZM but i still love it!
Blade
RZM
Lovely interesting grip
Just noticed that the grip on my RZM SA is not flush with the crossguards, and there is about 1-2mm overhang of the wood, Is this normal on RZM pieces?
See pic for example:
Hi Lewis, It looks like either the Grip or the Crossguards have been replaced on your SA.
It is normal to see a bit of 'shrinkage' in grips but not overhangs. Some makers have better grip to crossguard fit than others (see the attached picture). It looks as though the scabbard has had a repaint.
Hope this helps .
Best wishes, Ian.
www.simplydaggers.co.uk
Thanks for the reply. I have noticed other RZM SAs with overhangs, heres one on Lakeside:
http://www.lakesidetrader.com/pics/SA-267d.jpgHave also seen some other sites with this overhang on RZMs.
Also with regards to the paint on the scabbard, i thought alot of RZMs were painted. And this paint has spidering, what makes you think its re-painted and didn't come from the factory painted like that?
Thanks
Lewis
hi lewis i too agree with ian something is not right with that grip it should not overhang like that, but the insignia looks to be set in the grip properly. oh and i love the blade it looks near mint
sean
Hi Lewis,
You are right RZM SA's do have painted scabbards and it might be right on yours. I just have not seen one with such a pale brown coloured painted scabbard. Could be an early repaint.
The RZM sold by Lakesidetrader I think maybe just where the grip has moved slightly against the crossguard making it look like an overhang.
Thanks, Ian
