Hello Rieny!

This is an early Eickhorn trademark,
Maybe someone else know anything about the blind squirrel?

I have an Eickhorn with the similar early trademark, the squirrel on my Eickhorn have eyes though, and its bench marked 8.

Sam,

Thanks for the picture Nakida, but your makermark is an other than mine.
Note the C.E. and the eye!

It seems to be a early dagger, look at the number in the crossguard. "Werkplatznummer" in German, dont know the english word...

The english term for "Werkstattnummer" is "bench mark" as Nakida has written already.
Concerning the mark, I think they are quite the same. Those dots (eye and dots behind C and E) where very delicate to be executed in these etching templates. When those dots were not well executed or obstructed in the etching template they are missed in the final maker mark. Mishappened templats and therefore misshappened maker marks are not unknown.
Ithink that it is important that the overall of the makrs are totally identical especially the distinct squirrels tail.
Regards (schne Gre),

Hi Rieny

In my opinion this is an authentic dagger....I guess the quality control inspector viewed this dagger after his beer hall lunch and just let it go by!... Big Grin

I also concur that you have a good dagger since there are no other questionable points I can see. It would be interesting to know how the tang and crossguard are marked if you ever disassemble it.

I don't like the maker mark rieny posted. The letters do not look uniform in size and are not well defined. The mark looks to be off center as well. The blade spine looks sharp for an early dagger too. To me it looks crude when compared to the mark posted by Nakida.

Could we have a close up of the grip, close up of eagle (adler) and SA button in the grip?

The SA pin looks a bit strange but it could be the picture, so a close up would help.
But according to these pics I want say it is fake. It might not be textbook example but not that bad either.
A few more pics would help clear this out.

I've seen few times the "blind squirrel" with serrated tail and I'm 100% sure the dagger is OK.
Now I have to check my Army R.klaas if the crane has the eyes on place ... Big Grin

From the photos, that is a very good dagger. The "Blind Squirrel" is a minor fault and is well known. The rest, including the grip and eagle look good too. The #4 benchmark is a good feature.

Rieny,
thanks for the extra pics of the grip.
Dagger looks good to me.
With very nice fit between grip and crossguard.
And a nice eagle in the grip aswell !
So I wouldn't worry to much.

Congrats nice dagger!
