Hi All

I'm looking for some thoughts on this dagger. Here the conclusion I have so far.

-Period applied gilt
-Correct wear spots
-Gold not applied at factory but upgraded by original owner
-Named to owner 'BOLLING'
-Groupe mark is associated with marine unit bases

Any thoughts appreciated. I love this dagger, I picked it up very reasonably priced.

Thank you in advance. James

Nice looking dagger!
But gilded, standard M33 SA daggers are not documented anywhere.
So when and by who this was done will always remain a mystery...

My thoughts gilt appears correct tone and wear patterns to highllights as one would expect, comensurate with age I would feel safe with this dagger as a period done example and perhaps maker applied note adler nice piece great score cheers and best, Ryan

Thanks Gents for the comments. An interesting peice for sure. I've researched the name Bolling at great length but no luck! I belive the gilded finish was applied after the dagger was purchased because of the dent marks on the lower fittings in the picture above. The gilt applied over these knocks it seems.

Ryan, what did you mean 'note adler' sorry.

The gold in the Gau mark would indicate that it was plated after being issued and not at the factory.

Excellent observation, Vern!

The gilding appears to have been done a long time ago, but it remains impossible to determine if that was before May 1945.
