I posted this years ago... This was a bring back from a great uncle who fought in the ETW... It was in mint condition but with the dent in scabbard.. I know the hanger is weird but thats how it was when I got it..

The dagger has been flooded out twice.. First in hurricane Irene 2011. It looked terrible and I was very upset. Andy said,,leave it with me. A month later he gave it back to me and it looked great..

Then late 2012,,SuperStorm Sandy hit.. It was under water for 3 days. Salt water, water with sewage and sewage treatment chemicals.. It came out black. .... and again Andy said, get your life together leave me your families daggers.... and again,,a month later he gave it back to me the way it looks now.. No not mint anymore. Maybe even worthless,,but still a good wall hanger and a true war bring back.....
Thanks Andy,,I'll never forget it, miss you buddy.....

,, I have a Army Vinny said was a Generals dagger. It was nice and I had posted it here years ago. But that too went under. Andy never got to finish it after Sandy and I still have it in parts,,, very rough shape.. I also have a all black German bayonet. Numbers matched,,it was mint and all black as night, blade, scabbard, frog.. Now,,rough shape..

Also had a NSFK,, was beautiful,,small blue leatherette handle,, it was never recovered ,,,and a 2nd Luftwaffe,,,, gone with the tide...

Try Ren Wax or if you don't have any, Johnson's paste wax for floors.

Hit the SA hanger too. Leather dries out. If nothing else, brown shoe polish.

Gas
I do know what it is like to loose stuff.
Never a flood, but last year I lost my Colorado log home and all 17 acres to fire, nothing left to even fix up. Lost some fine firearms, and lots of antiques. Not to mention the ammo, stored in dry Colorado.
All my daggers and military stuff was here in Missouri, so still have it.
If the wood grip is really dry, try some clear wood preservative, it will soak into the wood, not just sit on top like wax. After it dries for several weeks, then wax.
I remember Andy all excited about the SOS so he could get those BBQ sandwiches, dang, he loved those.
I bring back WWII fighting knives from the grave, but your daggers should be left alone I guess. To each his own. Do what makes you happy.

Dave, Ed , much thanks...
. The SA had extensive work done to it to get it to this condition.. Chemicals in the flood waters actually etched my case hard machinist tools! The blade is the best its going to be and thats that.
The wood though I'm going to do something about because it really looks dry , flat etc. - Maybe strip down the scabbard glass bead it and paint[?] Whats the SA brown color called? What kind of paint,,or best to leave as is??

Gaz,

Nose around MAX in a month and you might find solutions. Perhaps the blade can be resurfaced and the scabbard shell redone. It depends whether you want it:

- Authentic twice drowned chemically roached

- Redone closer to what it originally looked like.
