Another SA beauty of Sam!

I find JP Sauer SA's touch to find compared to Heanels and Kobers... is that just me or do others experience the same thing?

Congratulations with this great find!

Best greetings,

Herman

Thanx Herman!
I have the same feeling about J.P:s that they seem a little harder to find than Kober and Heanel, I think I have owned 3 good examples of this maker since I joined the hobby Smile

The gun makers had access to some of the best stocks of wood as well.
Posted By: Nakida Re: J.P. Sauer!! - 04/17/2010 12:50 PM
Hi Doug and thanx for your input!

Yes, the Suhl gang and the only Berlin maker Haco definitely used outstanding wood for their grips.
As you said, Sauer was a gun maker (still is) and Suhl was a weapon town so the best stocks of wood were to be found there, obviously for Kober and Haenel as well Smile

Those grips are most likely made of Oak, German Birch or maybe maple. The Sauer grips seem to be a little different than Kober and Haenel,IMO.
We seldom see cracks or chips on grips from the Suhl gang or Haco.
Grip to cross guard fittings is always tight because there is almost no shrinking on this type of hardwood when compare to other type of woods from other makers.

Nakida, Your magnetic appeal seems always to draw some of the nicest daggers. Cheers to you on that,, but does that same appeal work on the ladies? Big Grin. Just joking!! Big Grin This SA reminds me of the Franz Frenzel dagger. It has some of the same characteristics. Very nice Larry

Many thanx mate, it works even better on the ladies Wink, but problem is u never get rid of them haha,
When comes to daggers u never has enough and u don’t want to get rid of them either,) best of all is that beautiful daggers don’t need any makeup and never tell you what to do or not to do: D

Cheers Smile

Here is a Sauer I have since sold to another GDC member. I acquired it straight from the Vets son. Besides the super blade, two things stand out about this SA dagger. First is the 1945 inscription on the scabbard. Second is the diamond pattern gun stock impression on the grip. Altogether a special SA dagger.

Looks like a vice jaw mark rather than checquering to me but still great condition SA
Posted By: Skyline Drive Re: J.P. Sauer!! - 05/10/2010 01:59 PM
Could be marks from a vice. But there are no similar markings on the front and no apparent reason for a need to use a vice. But it's interesting that Sauer was also a small weapons manufacturer...

Yes but on stock work the diamonds are left raised not indented as on this hilt I have similar marks on a colt pistol grip.Maybe other side had the benifit of a soft jaw who knows ?
as before it is still a great dagger from Suhl where they seemed to make a better product
Posted By: Skyline Drive Re: J.P. Sauer!! - 05/10/2010 02:17 PM
Sorry if I misled you. I didn't intend to suggest that the grip was intentionally checkered. What I am suggesting is that the marks were caused by pressure against a stock. But who knows? The photo makes them seem larger than they are.

Skyline! what a fantastic condition on that Sauer Eek many thanx for showing Smile
