Has anyone ever ran into an sa dagger with the motto and rzm mark on same side of the blade?
Whats everyone think?
Roy. I had an ss dagger blade that had the RZM and the motto on the same side! According Johnson or Wittmann they said it was an unfinished blade that would eventually have an inscription engraved on the back!
Roy this is a very interesting example. That Czech maker if I'm not mistaken did not make early daggers, just RZM's. looking at the rest of this piece it appears to be transitional in nature. I would not immediately discount it as being a bad dagger. Trust me, most would not want it cause it's not textbook but I have interest this may well be original. Can you bring it to the show for a hands on?
Never seen this before! Maker is Franz Frenzel Frenixwerk Nixdorf- Sudetenland. Do you have more pics of this dagger?
It would seem the hardware is nickel early transitional as lakeside states my feelings exactly, im meeting the guy on sunday. I have never scene a reproduction that the blade looked that good. I cannot make to the sos but if i pick it up ill post some more pics
Thanks everybody.
Seems to me I had a 7/116 years ago in all nickel. I will check my archives if I get some time this weekend.
You will be missed at the show!
Hi Roy, I have no issue with your blade or dagger. I have handled 100s of SA since I began collecting in 1982 at local, small Toronto area shows and I have seen this blade configuration previously. I can not of course say that it was the same maker. I am in agreement with Paul on this one. I have no issue with this dagger. Collectors may not pay a premium right now due to the lack of information but in 10 years this dagger will be a very desirable item when it is pronounced to be "fine" cheers, Ryan
P.S. Roy!!!!!!! BUY THAT DAGGER MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!! cheers, Ryan
Picked it up today looks pretty good blade to crossguard fit is excellent and scabbard to blade also excellent. Transitional piece ill post more photos when i get some time
It seems to have charachteristics of a true transitional piece. The scabbard fittings seem to be nickel silver, and the screws seem to be made of steel. The crossguards are non magnetic but the tang nut is magnetic.
Really a different piece i do like the way the motto looks on the same side as the rzm.
Fittment all around the dagger 8s also good.
The scabbard throat has some lifting to the inner plating leading me to believe it is of steel construction also
Anybody want to take it to the sos and sell this for me?
Hi Roy, glad that you acquired this dagger....nice score....why not post it for sale here...?? I an others might just be interested, cheers, Ryan
Just happened across Johnson Vol VII pg 91.
Another example w. the motto and maker mark to same side.
Thanks for this, Paul, but do you know that now I have another Eickhorn SA TM variation to look for... this etched seated squirrel alone without the RZM mark?
