Brand new guy here..and up until 3 days ago I knew exactly nothing about German Daggers. In conversation with a friend a few weeks ago he mentioned a German "knife" a returning vet had given his mother years ago and knew nothing about it. Knowing I like doing research, asked if I'd check it out..anyway, after looking at some other forums, here's what I think I know..

SA Model 1933, pre-RZM marking years. Marked BO, district marking? Bayeresche Ostmark?

Sure would appreciate some comments, feedback, and a possible value? Is this maker any more or less valuable than some others? Does an earlier non-RZM marked dagger have any more value? Thank you.

Welcome... you have a nice original early SA dagger by a fairly common maker with a correct early hanger. Gau marked BO for Bayerische Ostmark which you stated. Generally an early SA dagger exhibits better quality, is more collectible and hence has more value; however this also depends on the condition of the dagger. The price of SAs has been lethargic of late and I'd put the value of this piece with the hanger between $575-$675 IMO.

Always interesting to see a dagger that hasn't been in a collection.
Nice example!

Nice dagger Frank!..early daggers show their craftmanship..but you may want to turn the dagger around to face the correct direction. When looking at the dagger and scabbard hanger straight on..you want the hanger to be at the right side of the scabbard. This is the correct position for a side carry which would hang down from the SA manns left side.
below is a photo of SA chief Victor Lutze with an SA dagger carried in the correct position. Regards Larry

Appears to be a clean/original Gebruder Heller . Not a rare maker but one thats sought after because of the excellent craftsmanship and also because this maker used the dark burnish in the motto which collectors love . Nice score friend .
