without knowing the dagger maker, are eagle emblems on the grips interchangeable between SA and SS daggers?
I am no specialist in these eagles but what I have read in certain descriptions there are a lot of different eagles ("high neck", "point behind the head" and others) and certain manufacturers did have certain eagles in main supply.
Hope the experts jump in also.

My conclusion: There were many small variations and no one manufacturer can be associated exclusively with any one eagle or vice versa.
thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if I could take a " for parts" eagle and fit to complete an SS dagger. probably a risky / expensive venture
Not a venture I want to take at all and especially with that type of wood on an SS grip. Too brittle and aged to be messing around with it. The moment you begin this process it is that moment that devalues the dagger if left with gouging or pick marks on the grip. If possible study and identify what that particular maker should look like and as Dave H. has pointed out with the varied eagle types. Stay with an all period dagger. If you change the dagger you change the personal history of it. Regards Larry
