Most of you guys know me as an SS dagger collector. Well actually, an SA dagger was my very 1st purchase of a 3rd Reich edged weapon, 30 some years ago. To this day I still love the SA's for the beautiful variety of wood that was used in the manufacturing of this dagger. For me it was the 1st edged weapon that began the era of the 3rd Reich.

At first glance always for me the wood catches my attention. Like a well endowed woman. After that the search to see the rest.....of the dagger and then the blade. Larry

JR,

Agreed. The SA dagger has a unique pedigree among III. Reich
edged weapons. You get a certain sense of early history just by studying the wooden grips on these early models.

Grips once clasped in ernest, stained with sweat and oil from those who owned them, making them almost as unique as fingerprints. The colors and grain patterns found on some of these grips is nothing short of spectacular, Mother Nature at her best!

Thanks ... wink

I always try to pick out the maker just by looking at the grip. It's tough but some jump right out at you.
JR your pics never cease to amaze me.

JR!

Glad to see your thread title was referring to SA dagger grips, I was momentarily concerned that you may be confessing something personal here on GDC.
Anything to get some life in this place

Just kidding...

Anyway, awesome pics as always.
Sorry I missed you at the MAX this year.

All the best,
Johnny

Have a special thing for the Kobers JR, especially that beautiful red toned one! I have one with that tone and it really stands out in a group! I swear Kober must have aged their wood correctly and been MASTER fitters because I have never seen one with a sloppy fit! wink Kevin.

A Waffenhammer, from Deggendorf. Nice colour, attractive grain, and a great fit.
