Hi new to the group and trying to find info on the dagger my father in law got.
The info I have collected so far is that it is a SA dagger with the eichcorn (dont know the spelling) and Sw mark.
The thing is the blade is all black and not shiny like all the others I have found. I have more pictures of if someone needs to see more to help me find out about the dagger. On the inside of the scarab it is marked WE.

The blade has been sharpened quite a bit which reduces value significantly.

It also appears that there was quite a bit of rust at some time. Hard to tell from the picture. If there was rust, it is possible that naval jelly or a similar product might have used to remove it. Some of those products stain the steel.

Also the scabbard fitting seems to be black?
Please show some more photos.

I agree with Dave -probably overcleaned with naval jelly(which is a mixture of phosphoric acids) which leave a layer of black iron phosphate on the blade (in the case of the crossguards, copper phosphate)very difficult to repair from this state-best to just accept it as is.The scabbard may not have been injured to the same extent.Mike

It appears to be a ground Rohm. The maker mark is very close to the crossguard. Probably why it was ground in the first place...maybe an overzealous owner?
