I don’t think there’s anything original on that item. It’s a complete fantasy piece, leave it where it is.

Really not much to learn here.
In order for it to be a fake/copy means an original exists, in this case there is no original to copy so it is not a fake per se but rather a "fantasy piece".

Your friend may or may not swear left and right that its legit, inherited from his great uncle who took it directly from a dead Nazi ect but always remember, buy the item, not the story.

anytime you see that exact gold toned looking eagle,,,,,let someone else buy it!

How can you tell if dagger is real or fake ?

With experience, one knows the parts are not of the period nor do they belong together. Also with respect to the blade, that eagle on the ricasso is always a bad sign. It’s not just a fake, it’s not even a good fake.

What ever it is that you do for a job or a hobby and you are proficient at it...then you will know exactly if it is a job well done or something created.

Research sharpens ones knowledge.
