Guy,

That is a completely new style of number to me. It looks as if done by a rotary cutter of some kind.

So likely a fabrication?

Lets see what others say. To me it is a new style, but ...

never seen it done like that
The style is crude and as stated not close to what we are used to. Even worse is how new the engraving appears crisp with zero hint of age

Hello, the engraving does not show the least of the style of fonts of the certain period and as sellick8302@rogers.com stated before does not show any traces of age. Obviously done yesterday or perhaps the day before yesterday.
Regards,

Same thoughts but just wanted to confirm and help others not get burned.

As said, the style is cruder than we’re used to seeing. The other thing I don’t like is the numbers look like they were done last week. I’m afraid someone cocked up a perfectly original dagger by trying to improve its value.

Hello Guy H., I have learned that producing and using an avatar is something very personal. How does it come that you use MY pic of one of MY daggers for your avatar, furthermore without any request?
Regards,

Because I found it on line while looking up pictures of SS dagger knots. I wanted too tie one on my own dagger. I saved them for future reference . Simple internet search with tons of unattributed photos. I simply used it as an avatar. I don't now you or anyone else on this forum for that fact. So, it was nothing personal as I had no idea. I cant ask permission to use something found on line that I have no idea who owns it. I can change it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of internet collectors and want to be website experts..
Many people use photos from the internet to further there own informational websites.. And I personally do not like it.. They have no clue if the item pictured is original ,fake, pirated from another collector who was sent the photos in private etc.. etc...
Wotan I know it sucks when you see your photo's or your collection pictured on websites..
This is a general statement not directed to Mr. Guy But other larger websites with self proclaimed experts..

Hello Guy H., thank you for your answer. To my best understanding each post in which I am showing pics is marked with my nickname. But you are right, when doing an overall search, photographs without credit can appear.

Concerning avatars: For my understandig an avatar is something personal which should show a connection to the person showing it. When you do look through the forum you can see that a lot of different kinds of avatars is used, I think I have seen even modern cars if this is the beloved field of interest of the certain user. Naturally, as we are mostly a forum for german edged weapons, user often take one of their most interesting items (in their personal sense) out of THEIR OWN collection for their avatar.
I have noticed that you have stopped using the certain chained SSdagger with portepee. I would encourage you to use eg. one of your edged weapons out of your collection, just to show us your special interests or to use an eblem to which you have a special relation in collecting.

Concerning the certain SSdagger with portepee: I once got it with this certain, absolutely unusual tie and the knot was "frozen" into it´s tie showing that it has been there since decades. It also has subtle traces of wearing just on the right places which shows us, that the portepee was not bound postwar just for show but obviously during the period and was worn as such. Why it was bound this way we will never know but I pesonally have the feeling that the common tie according to regulations is instabile and did not fit the requests of the former wearer therefore he decided to use this special tie which is absolutely strong.

I wish you happy collecting much joy with your items and a relaxed time in the forum, regards,
