Need help with authentication of a ss-dagger!

At first glance, I would say that the aging is "not" right on this dagger.

How do you mean? Please explain!

the chain and center fitting are messed with,all the burnish is gone and i am not sure of the maker. see what other say. myself t would not buy this piece. paul

This dagger belongs to my father, he bought it 10years ago from a antique dealer in Sweden for about USD$1300.
But I have always have my doubts if it�s real or not!

This is a type C chain. Late war. These were not made with burnishing.

Everything is original here.
The chain is the so called Type C. (Type I by Wittmann)
The chain was very rusty and dirty and IMO cleaned.
Such pitting in the schackles was not done in the factory.

The dagger itself does not belong originally to this chain.
Being a early and rare ASSO (Sch�ttelh�fer) dagger.
It's possible that the wearer bought a chained scabbard when he was permitted to wear such chain.

You have a model 1933 dagger in a model 1936 scabbard. Factory issue 1936 blades in this type scabbard have no maker mark. There were regulations as to who could wear this scabbard. It was not limited to officers, although it is frequently referred to as an officer's model. It wasn't uncommon for SS personnel who qualified to wear the 1936 scabbard to retain their earlier dagger and purchase a '36 scabbard only. From the photos, the dagger and scabbard appear to be authentic. This type of chain was plated, which explains its rough finish. The scabbard was likely stored for an extended period in a humid environment, causing the plating to "bubble."

I'm curious what will happen overtime when the photo host eventually deletes its content and the GDC...is left with an empty thread without photo proof!

Definitly no 'bubbling'... for sure it's pitting from rust.

I have not seen a chain and center fittings like that before - uniformly and evenly pitted front and back. And, there is little or no damage to the rest. There is something unexplained here.

Then, what is not correct on the chain?
It's a correct type C imo. Just heavy cleaned after rust and moist.

I should have said "I have never seen a chain with damage like that before."

And where one part of a dagger is seriously affected by moisture and rust, other parts suffer as well to some degree ... but I see no signs of this.

The scabbard is been fooled with.
