Good catch, Kreta. Those are very hard to find. Looks 100% to me. Even has the "secret mark" found on many ASSO daggers.

Bob,

It's a secret.

Well now, that certainly helps the hobby!
If the "secret" can prevent someone from getting burnt on a future purchase, why not share it with the forum?

Tanker,

Because the next generation of fakes will have this feature.

The fakers read these threads just like we do, only for different reasons.

Do you really think that the fakers can fake the age/markings of an original one? If you feel if they get the "secret" marks, the fakers will produce a non detectable fake, then the hobby is really in trouble. By telling what to look for should educate collectors. This is just my opinion only and if info doesn't want to be made public, then that is their right. Ron

Didn't realize you were collecting SS dagger, Ron.

You never know! Wouldn't it be nice to help the other collectors? It probably would have have been best not to even mention the "secret mark" as now it causes folks to investigate and look for something now. Now the fakers really do know something isn't right! Does the Heer maker mark share the same secret? It is entirely up to you if you don't want to share it though. I only shared my opinion. Ron

Hi I see merit to both sides......on the one hand the intent and purpose of this forum is to share knowledge and to prevent people from purchasing fakes, if at all possible..although there is an onus on self education.See the other point as well, but only so far...What Ron states has merit....if the fakes are so good that the only way to differentiate from an original is a particular mark than the hobby is truly in trouble, just as with the alleged super fake SS honor ring and certain medals. The perfectly fake SS dagger does not yet exist....IMO....perhaps you can email Bob and Ron the "secret mark" ....it was well intentioned.... smile cheers to all and to all a good night, Ryan
