No Ron but you have a good eye. When I 1st looked at it I thought the same but it's just dulled as this was laying in a closet at the Vets girlfriends for 60 years. There is a light coat of patina all over it. Just for interest sake this came in with it. Another tagged example, see haw it has the same light coat on it? My guess is the Vet got into a factory and swiped these.

Ok now if you want a real stretch here...
Perhaps some evidence that Schüttelhofer participated in RZM contract 1198/39...
I know a stretch but thought I would toss it out for the fun of it.

Interesting thought. The vet certainly did not get those two "off a dead German" as we often hear. Those are worth hanging on your own wall. Great find.

Now i can read in red ink the letter M & number 7 on the SS tag next to Hersteller: M7/? , can you make it out ?, if you can read it you might have the maker of 1198

Sorry guys can't make it out.

So the number could either be 3,4,6,7,9 ?, as we know what makers # 1,2,5,8,10 stand for, can you not make out any part of the number ?, would an ultra violet light help ?

You may ask a forensic technican
The ink has been faded already,but if i had to guess,i would say 6,because the marked area looks like a circle.

I wonder if there is some sort of special light we could use cause this would be a cool discovery.
Any CSI detectives out there?

Try holding it up to the light to see if impressions in the paper show up the way a watermark would show up or try a digital camera that makes automatic lighting adjustments may reveal impressions or residue when you use ISO mode (no flash, ambient light only) and the light is low (you 'll have to experiment to find out how low to adjust your light).


If that does not work try infrared or blacklight or maybe Ultraviolet light, would probably work best in a dark room , good luck

Ok Dave here are the images taken in various lighting.
I'm 99% sure that Gerd is correct M7/6.
If you need me to email you the files just ask. BTW, it's easier to see from back far than close up!
Hey I think we just solved a years long mystery on this maker.
Cool.

Tom J. and I bought 6 tagged M7/13 HJ Knives just like yours from an old collection in NY from a long time collector who vet purchased them directly. All M7/13s and no mottos.
Also, in one of my first motel buys, a vet came in with 12 SA RZM M7/13s in new condition he pulled out of a store in Germany in May of 45. Evidently M7/13 was one of the larger makers of party daggers.

One thing is certain though, it ain't a 6, unless I've been drinking too much.

From both pics,Pauls and mine it looks like 6. From Dave's it looks like3.
But i'm sure we'll find out in a short time,because one of these made it.

My goodness, some see it as a 6, others as a 9 and me as a 3, where will it end. I think I'm starting to see an 8.
So far away from a definite answer and yet, so close from the goal.

If you come to a big US Show, eat a large breakfast because the food at the shows is crap and very expensive. The hot dogs and hamburgers were cooked long before and the pizza warmed up several times.

Probably that's why Gerd prefer to stay in Germany where Schnitzels are the best (and beer too) :-)

I always wondered why they could not serve something decent and charge a little more for it. Or at least bring in a fast-food company that can make something fresh.

The worst that I have ever seen is SOS. The hot dogs were not even warm. They would even give you a lid so you could take coffee or a cold drink back to the table.

Damn...it doesn't sounds good.A fast food company would make sense Dave!

They charge a few € more as usual,but still ok!
I guess TJ and his staff like it too....

That is why I like to stay at the Crowne Plaza and take the shuttle back for lunch then take it again back to the show.

Even the bottled water is a rip off.

Really great goods there. Crowds go to SOS, money and high class items go to MAX.

Come to the show. Eat a good breakfast. Take an insulated coffee mug from the hotel as the stuff they sell tastes poorly. Maybe bring a snack. Leave when you get hungry.

Those nasty dealers ripping off people!!

But IMHO the SOS was worse stand in line for 40min for a sandwich and limp fries only to have to stand up and eat it cause no chairs supplied.

I started a topic in the Forum. Go there and say your piece. We'll be fed poorly as long as we put up with it.

At least you can sit at MAX.

Has anyone noticed the "Pork Producers" organization that sets up in the hall at the SOS? Really great pork chop sandwiches with other items on the menu also...

Denny, they only show up on Friday and Saturday... not on Thursday.

The only food worth buying at the show is there.
