I believe a similar order applied for W-SS.

A very interesting photo of a regular Ordnungspolizei officer wearing the SS dagger. I have seen photos of the SS Officer Degen in wear by regular policemen but not one of the dagger in wear. I also notice that he is wearing the Alte Kampfer stripe. Thanks for showing it.

I see there are many way`s to attatch the knot to the dagger.
The are no regulations?

The authorized knot is the army knot, but I have seen a few examples and photos of same with Luftwaffe knots. Occasionally, you see an army dagger with a Luftwaffe knot and vice versa. Yes, there are regulations as to the SS knot. The one shown by Mr. Brown is not in a regulation tie, which involves making an "X" across the lower guard at the base of the grip with the cord. Presumably, this represents the crossbones of the totenkopf design. However, the regulation tie is cumbersome and interferes with inserting the dagger into the scabbard. That is likely why so many alternative ties are seen.

The regulation tie is correctly described by Grumpy. I think I have seen the order and official illustration reproduced in Johnson's vol. II.

hi i have been real lucky and both of my ss chained daggers came with owners photos and both chained knots i own have bottom variations in the style of ss knots.

Here IS one with a navy portepee. Was worn this way (definately proper and corresponding wearing traces) and did came this way by.

I think I will get myself and Army knot for my own SS Chained dagger.

A beautiful dagger, Wotan. Thank you for showing. When you say navy portepee do you refer to the navy sword knot? I know that these are longer than the army and would permit a weave like your dagger knot has.

@ Barry Brown, no saber portepee but a dagger portepee. The dagger portepees did come in three different lengths. About 20cm+ for luft daggers, about 40+ for army daggers and I think to remember about 60cm for navy DAGGERS. You will never be able to tie an real army portepee in a correct tie on a navy dagger. Requires extra length.

So I`m right navy knots are used at SS daggers.

@janjan, yes, but for SURE not the rule. This certain dagger came as it is, but I habe never seen another one this way and I have only personal ideas why it was worn this way. There could be that the wearer could not get to buy an army portepee "in the moment", perhaps this certain navy portepee was straight available for him within the family, perhaps he was a member or a former member of the navy, perhaps he liked this certain binding as it is much more steady than the regulation binding. Who knows.

when I'm looking on the period regulation with the drawing I've posted http://phpstack-500133-1583587.cloudwaysapps.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=277861#Post277861 and the Portep�e on your dagger, I'm asking myself why they have used such a distinct pattern of string in that drawing.
I know Heer Portep�es were mostly worn, but I would like to ask you for some close-up photos of the Portep�e on your dagger. Thanks in advance.
