WoW!! That is a nice dagger and the inscription looks period done (script etc..) if Ross or anyone can identify owner from the SS Aus number than you have a true gem! Congrats, Ryan

Anybodys guess on the grip . Very nice dagger though .

It's the way I like them most, matched with E.P.& S. type scabbard (I know it's not "a must", but I just like 'em that way).
Great burnishing too. I guess the mysterious "H" is just coincidence. We see multiple dents like that on grips from time to time. Usually they don't look special, but here someone was trying to smash (?) the grip with some tool of special shape, or was banging with the dagger against some object having a detail shaped H - like.

Thanks for your kind words,gents!

But i guess the Ausweisnumber is different to the Membership number!?!?

Hi Gerd, new addition to your collection? Looks very nice. Something what we do not see often. Actually, i did not see such a inscription at all.

Take care, Lukas.

The "H" could be a "I," but I have no idea why either would be stamped in such a way. If you can get the number traced and the owner had an "H" initial, that could explain it. It's odd the grip stamp was repeated so often. Trying to get a good strike, I guess.

This dagger was disappeared from the market,since 1950. The former owner received it straight from the family,but he can't recall the name. So i hope Ross jumps in here......

@Grumpy you might be right.

Kurt,
join the dark side.... cool
War heute in Kassel,nichts gesehen was mich interessieren würde sick

Good news. SS Mann No. 34 023 can be identified! He has a Race & Settlement File in the National Archives that includes three good photos of him and his SS-Stammkarte (not usually found here). I will have to take a look at the file again and check the NSDAP membership records on my next visit to the Archives.

Enjoy!
