I am going to be buying these items from a friend's estate. I have gone thru Wittman's SS Book and I am pretty sure they are correct but would appreciate any comments. I have already checked on the SS number stamped on the dagger and there was no information available. I need to know if they are in fact original and what would be fair to offer for the pair. Please be patient there are a lot of photos, I tried to post the photos as attachments but I guess they were too big.

I think you've hit the jackpot, Larry. The sword is a typical "Dachau" type with maker mark. The hanger is proper for an SS sword, but is usually seen with the earlier types (not a problem). Repro SS portepees are getting better all the time, but, based on the photos, this one looks good. The dagger and scabbard look fine. These are highly desirable items to be added to a collection,

These are some of the others I am getting. I will later be posting questions in the appropriate forums as I am far from expert in these items. Yes that is a re-pointed full Rohm.

Sorry for the double photos. This is the one that I wanted to post.

Beautiful pieces. The dagger is a ground Röhm 33 and the scabbard is model 36. I believe that these changes were very common at the time.

Hi Larry,

the sword hanger for self is pretty much rarer then the sword. As Grumpy says very seldom seen on late Dachau pieces, but the hanger is 100% good.I think Johnson has a one in his offer, may be 2000 $.

Thanks to all for the responses. I was concerned about originality as there are so many fakes out there.

WOW Eek talk about stepping in something on the ground!! usually at these estate sales you pick them up dirt cheap depending upon the other bidders. Did you step in the same luck with your final bid as well?? To buy these same pieces from a dealer,, you would of spent alot,, so I know you you did well. Congratulations

what really spins my wheels here is you have Chained SS with a Rohm dedication. You just dont see that combination that often. I hope Ross sees this and can do a background check on the number. I am really curious of this owner. He must of had some big "walnuts" and guts to be walking around with that dedication in his scabbard. Wow Best Larry

I would get a digital microscope on the GH SS just to be on the safe side. Over here these are the most common good fakes around. They are almost perfect but you will pick them up on a digital microscope.

A few years back there were next to none of these around and now they are everywhere. The ground Rohm ones either full or partial show up all the times in the shows here in the uk.

Picking up this collection was actually fairly expensive as they belonged to a long time friend of mine. The advice regarding the microscope while excellent advice is a little beyond my resources here. I will have to rely on the fact that they seem to be right and I have known of them for many years. I appreciate the well informed comments and suggestions and hope to benefit from the expertise available here as I have other items of which I have minimal knowledge that are appropriate to other forums.

Congrats on your investment! I am sorry to report that SS Mann No 84 484 has still eluded my search, but I am adding numbers every week and never know who I will find next.
