Hello Serge, that's an outstanding example of my favorite type! Nice scabbard paint and darkening to the chain links! Eek Thanks for showing, Leipzig
Posted By: patrice Re: Let's see Chained SS daggers! - 05/25/2009 06:31 PM
From the pics, the scabbard is anodized and not painted. Wink It also has the mid period scabbard plated fittings which is perfectly correct for this vintage type configuration.

It is 100% original and in a fantastic condition, a real beauty that I wouldn't mind having in my collection.

Congrats Serge.

Now I know you guys...
Yea YOU Guys!

All very fine SS Chained daggers and who said they were rare. Big Grin
And for those of you who haven't spent your stimulus check or tax refund yet, you can own a very uncommon ided chained SS dagger that belonged to SS-Gruppenfhrer Walter Staudinger on Tom Wittman's website. His ided SS sword is thrown in and the price for the pair has been reduced to boot! They are No. 5 on his "Special Offerings" section:

Staudinger has a pretty extensive SS Officer File. Here is his record of service assignments.

I only found two photos of Staudinger in his records. Neither are of him in his uniform.

Great daggers. A chance to dig my three pieces out of the safe. I have bought around 7 Chained SS daggers from my hotel buys, in fact i just bought one about three months ago. These are three that i have kept for myself. All have great no maker blades, anodized scabbards, handles are perfect with no chips.

Mark,
Yes she is single but has a boyfriend. I guess iam addicted to doing hotel buys,it is the chase, hunt, you never know what will walk thru the door, it is like a treasure hunt, more interesting then actually owning the item. I have bought some really neat items, some i kept, most i have resold. Some of you guys may own some of the items i have dug up , bought from me or someone else that i sold them to.
thanks

As with many Berlin recorded career data compilation forms, the dates on the Dienstlaufbahn shown in the previous post are wrong compared to what actually happended in the field/with the unit. An accurate career synopsis requires more material closer to the events or individual when recorded. That's my experience in the 15 SS books I've written this far and having studied Staudinger's career for my ongoing SS/Police German Cross holders series with Bender Publishing. Here is Staudinger in uniform, wearing the German Cross in Gold awarded earlier when a Standartenfhrer and the Artillerie Regimentskommandeur "LSSAH" on June 18, 1942.

Beautifull daggers but I se more type II chains are they more common?
Why are they more common

I wanna show you some pics of an M 36, that was found together with this M 33:

http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/...28099473/m/533107051

Very interesting the "Gau-Marke", stamped on the crossguard !

The pics are very poor, (I shot them on the evening in winter as I bought the daggers and I was very excited, because I catched these two daggers for ...

Anyway, it was a bargain ! Wink

The blades of the daggers where greased very well, as you can see on the pics of my M 36.

This dagger is not in that good shape as the daggers, that are shown in this thread till now, but I like it ! Smile

Mr. Pepera, what a feast for the eyes! One thing that strikes me is that all three look to be Type I's. However, the Martin Schmid example looks to be a Type I with Type II style burnishing to the chain links and center ramp. I have never seen this before.

I have several other inscribed SS pieces as pictured in Wittmanns SS book but these are the only 1936 model dedicated pieces.

Here is one that I overlooked previously:

Prince Josias von Waldeck und Pyrmont.

He was the only person of German nobility that was tried and prosecuted for war crimes.

Yes, the blade has been buffed but not too bad. After making a tentative deal with the veteran on the telephone and setting up a meeting at a restaurant off the turnpike, he brought it into the restaurant in a bag and proceeded to tell me how he 'cleaned it up for me since it was so 'dirty'!

OH MY GOSH!

Oh well, it is what it is and what I got and I certainly wouldn't reject it.

Researchable, personalized M-36 are rare, and are a delight when we have a advavance collectors share these gems with us.

Truly the M-36 Chained SS dagger is the most menacing production dagger produced during the period. The early nickle initial production examples have a "heft" to them and are a pleasure to feel in hand. -serge-

Troy, your dagger is simply beautiful and a perfect example and reason for why these artifacts should be cleaned and preserved. The supposed interest in TR artifacts is their existence in that period prior to to May 1945, whatever any collector sees in 70 years of post accumulated muck is beyond me. Roll Eyes and please don't mention 'Patina' it's no such thing, true patina is years and years of gentle caring not the gunge we see on some examples.
