MM,

You could well be right. It was taken off him when he surrendered and "thrown in a drawer" in a Staff sergeants desk????It lay there for weeks
until it was presented to the Unit Commander on his rotation back to the US at wars end.Family donated it to WP on his later death.Remember the story but not the color
Seiler (yank in UK) Confused
mikee,,no this is not in a museum,,,all the items i have posted and asked for opinions on reside in a private collection, shown by invitation only,,i hope to get a better look and better pictures in the future,,,thanks,,robert

It seems odd that Goering would have a baton that is laquered rather enameled. Are there examples of other Marshalls batons that are laquered?
Just wondering.
Steve
Hello all,....The genuine (white) baton resides for all to view at West Point.

Here's a thread on West Point that shows the baton held there.

but,,, was there more than one? the peice certainly looks very well made, phil
aye,,,therein lies the rub,,,was(is)there more than one Baton?,,,does anyone have any info that they would like to share?,,,Robert
Look at and compare against the one that Ruski posted the thread on and then think of Goerings ego and wealth.Would Goering carry a batton of this calibre?I guess who really knows but are there period photos to either prove or disprove the batton in question?
LAST TIME I WAS AT THE WEST POINT MUSEUM THE HG. BATON WAS THERE.IT IS WORTH THE TRIP GUYS AND THE WEST POINT ACADAMY IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD GO TO ALSO.IF YOU DONT FEEL THAT SOME INCREDIBLE SOLDIERS CAME FROM THERE,I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU COULD FEEL!LOG ON TO THE WEST POINT SITE AS THE PREVIOUS MEMBER RUSKI STATED.TAKE YOUR FAMILY AND YOU WILL SEE THE MANNERS AND DISAPLINE BY THE GREAT MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY.GOD BLESS THEM ALL.CDR
Hello,...Goering's baton is indeed on display at west point. The shaft is constructed from ivory, and is as you would expect of the highest quality (unlike the quite awful example displayed above!)...... Goering had two "parade" batons, the early version when he held the rank of air martial (blue velvet shaft)and then the latter one (ivory shaft) when he was Hitlers second in command.

I recall reading the story of how the baton made its way to West Point, but cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it. I think it might have been in a magazine but I'm not sure. There were pics of the handover along the way. If this rings a bell with anyone and you know where to find it, can you post it here? It was very good reading.

I KNOW ITS IN ONE OF JOHNSON'S OR WITTMANNS BOOKS IN COLOR.OF COURSE WHEN YOU GO TO LOOK FOR IT YOU CANT FIND IT.IT IS THE RAREST ARTIFACT OF GERMAN COLLECTIBLES.IN 1946 IT HAD AN INTRENSIC VALUE OF $46,000 DOLLARS.I WILL FIND THE CHAPTER AND POST THE PHOTOS ASAP.CARL
ONE MORE THING THAT BATON THAT IS SHOWN,CAN ANYONE IN HIS DREAMS THINK OF ADOLF PRESENTING THAT THING (TOP OF THIS POSTING) TO HIS BELOVED GORING,I THINK NOT!!
OKAY GO TO VOLUME II OF JOHNSONS EDGED WEAPONS BOOKS.PAGE#249 STARTS THE WHOLE ARTICLE ON GORING AND HIS THREE BATONS INCLUDING THE ONE WE WANT TO SEE.I KNOW THEIR IS A BOOK WITH THE BATON IN COLOR,BUT I KNOW I WILL BE MUCH OLDER BY THE TIME I FIND IT.CARL

Hi Carl - I just looked that up in my book and yes, that's the article I was thinking of. Thanks for reminding me. Not sure if it is a breach of the rules to show the whole article or not. Perhaps a mod can advise if it is ok to do that before you post it.

I have a very hard time believing that this could be real. It simply lacks the overall quality of what I would expect from this type of item. Of course, this could be a copy made for "field use", but even then I would expect the individual devices to be better made. I believe it is a 50'or 60's replica. Just my opinion.

It is brighter than sun, the one on the other post is the real deal. The different craft quality is more than obvious.
Also in the picture this guy holds the stick, the top end with the eagle has black backround. The one our friend posted here, has a white backround (difficult to say because of the flash but it's there all around the luft eagle). So even if the departed Hermann had a spare, it's not this one.Coal instead of Gold in this one... Excellent website - those batons sure are impressive. Even the replicas shown are pretty good too.
