I visited a friend last week in Tiefenbach (Bavaria), a very small village that seats on the Austrian and German border.
My wife and I took a small walk in the countryside one late afternoon and visited the small village church that dates back from 1548. What a surprised when I saw the entry door of the church, just thought it would be neat to share with you my discovery.

Wonderful carving. It reminds me of the rolls of honour at the entry of our Canadian churches.

I would love to own such a door for my own office, that would be really cool.

That is a wonderful door. The carvings are beautifully done, particularly the Pieta-esque panel on the upper portion above the names of the dead. Really a nice tribute to the men who lost their lives in battle. Thank you for sharing.

Pat,

Lovely landscape, it would make a great oil painting.

That oak door is very impressive, whoever carved it was no doubt a master woodworker. All the designs are crisp, clean and precise, exceptional.

The short legend reads, "We died for you, you pray for us."

I'm already looking forward to your next trip ... grin wink

Best regards!
