I have been looking for a while for the Allach squirrels. As you know, Eickhorn is the German word for squirrel, and as you may also know, I like Eick. I am concentrating my collecting interests into Eickhorn marked blades, in particular the various TMs used on SAs and HJs.

About a year and a half ago, I managed to pick up a Rosenthal squirrel, with the over shoulder Eickhorn TM from GDC.

Last year, I picked up a fake Eickhorn with a tag from Janos.

And, just before Christmas, thanks to a tip from Kris Lindblom, I managed to get a white Allach squirrel from Dennis Porrel.

Here are pictures of my squirrels. There is a shot of all three (the fake is the middle one) and a shot of each. I also took more views of the white squirrel, including the maker marks.

Here are the three squirrels, the white Allach, the fake Eickhorn and the Rosethal coloured squirrel.

Very nice can we see the Eickhorn mark on the colored squirrel – I would love to have one of these Eickhorn marked squirrels but these are tuff to find what’s the going rate on one of these?
Congrats John and if your squirrel ever needs a play date let me know! Big Grin

Nice Allach squirrel John! Congrats!!
Thanks for the comments guys.

Tom:

The Rosenthal was the only one I have seen for sale and it was about $600.

I have seen the Allach for sale before. Tom J had one on his site and he was asking $1,995. I got this from Dennis off his web site for a bit less than that.

I would say that the Allach is at least three times the price of a Rosenthal (the SS mystique at work, I guess), and I have absolutely no idea what a coloured version of the Allach would go for? Twice or three times what the white one is worth? I do not know.

IIRC, eich is oak, eichhorn is acorn and eichhörnchen is squirrel.

Nice figurines!
Dwight:

You are absolutely correct, this is Eichhornchen Model 68 from the Allach catalog.

Eickhorn is the name of the Carl Eickhorn company that used the squirrel logo ... I always associated the two as the same.

John
Eiche = oak
Eichel= acorn
Eichhorn= squirrel
Eichhörnchen= squirrel, a cute way of saying squirrel or can mean a small squirrel, another example Katze and Kätzchen.
John,

It's good to see your family of squirrels is growing. Your newest addition is a great example of the Professor's work.

It's difficult to upgrade anything that was produced by Allach, though, there are some other very excellent squirrel porcelains out there. I can think of a really nice pattern by Meissen that's very Art Deco looking. Have you seen that one? It's normally found in white porcelain and red clay mediums and either one would make for a good companion to the two you now have.

Mike Wipf posted a reddish Böttger Steinzeug model in the Imperial Allach thread if you haven't seen one. Rosenthal also made a small, mini-squirrel that's pretty nice, too.

If I can ever lend a hand just drop me a line.

Thanks for sharing your latest Kärner pattern and much continued luck. Wink

Best!

John,
Nice set of cute little squirrels. I'm like you,these are one of my favorites. I don't know about some of you but everytime I see one of these I think of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris Badenov. Smile

From left to right, Boris Badenov, Natasha Fatale, and Fearless Leader.
Thank you, all.

It was Bill who got me into these porcelain pieces when he decided to list the Rosenthal Eichhorn on GDC.

Bill, I hven't heard of the Meissen pattern or the mini Rosenthal. I really would like your help in acquiring the missing pieces to make my passel of squirrels complete. They are gorgeous items and can be displayed anywhere without the raised eyebrows that many of our Nazi items cause.

John
