Some time back there was an interesting thread on this Forum about this folio of colour uniform plates by Knoetel. My copy was entered into the index of a Police library on 26 June 1939 and we were trying to pinpoint the date of publication.

I thought I'd just add that on page 99 of the "Verordnungsblatt der Technischen Nothilfe", Nr. 7, Berlin, 1 July 1939, there is reference to the publication of this folio, which was available at a cost of RM 3.60 from the Kameradschaftsbund Deutscher Pol.-Beamten in Berlin W 35, Luetzowstrasse 73.

The author of the note adds that there is no TN uniform plate in the folio, which must have been rather disappointing.

Any further information on this important reference would always be most welcome. Especially if there was more than one edition. It would also be interesting to link the plates to the postcards that were also produced - and which DID include one on the TN.

Interesting bit of information and I'll have to pull my copy to see if anything can be added.

I also attempted to perform a search for the past threads, although once again it appears that our valued information has vanished, which is VERY DISAPPOINTING.

The postcard series also included five color plates relating to the Sicherheitspolizei that were obviously not in the large folio either.

Didn't you have one that was dated as a gift or something Joe? Mine was property stamped to the Lubeck Police Library on 26 June 1939 as well Hugh. This must be shortly after they were sent out and prior to the 1 July 1939 announcement.

We had it nailed down pretty well to date in the earlier thread. That has always been a concern here at GDC. The loss of data from all our earlier research is sorely aggravating.

Thanks to all for continuing interest in this subject.

It is a shame the previous thread has gone to the happy Polizei hunting grounds in the sky.

Perhaps more was written in the announcement in the Police Verordnungsblatt (or even "Die Deutsche Polizei") in 1939 than I've found in the TN source?

Hopefully someone with access to these sources can help...

The old thread also referred to the variation to Tafel 9, where in my copy of the folio the Dienst-Anzug of the Verkehrsunfallbereitschaften had a green top, whereas a variation plate exists with a white top vizor. Perhaps that variation only appeared as a postcard, or was there another edition of the folio?! BTW, we've illustrated both green and white in our coverage in volume 2 of our German Police series, which Roger tells me he is sending out right now.

Just checked and my one example doesn't indicate any date of issue/acceptance. Although it does have a circle stamp that appears to have the City name of Stade at the bottom.

I searched my notes and the below is what I saved from that old thread and I'm fairly sure it was provided by Joe Wotka.

"Order of December 8, 1938 creating the Bildermappe

The info on the origin of the Bildermappe was sitting in my 1938 file. On December 8, 1938, the RFSSuChdDtPol issued an order indicating the commssion of a color series by a famous artist of the various ORPO uniforms. The series would be prepared using seven color off-set printing and bound in a full linen folio suitable for gifts and shooting or sport prizes. The Kameradschaftsbund Deutscher Pol.-Beamten in Berlin was responsible for the production of the series.

Paragraph 4) noted that respective command authorities were to notify subordinates that the folio would make an excellent Christmas gift. While this is evidence that the Bildermappe was in production and available in December 1938, existence of the series at that time is difficult to reconcile with the presence of the Feuerschutzpolizei uniform. The Preliminary Clothing Regulations for the Feuerschutzpolizei were issued May 3, 1939. So either Knoetel was given advance knowledge of the uniform for his work in December, or production could not have been completed until shortly before the introduction of the new uniform.

The early date of would explain the inclusion of the still unmodified long bayonets, which were being modified during 1938/39"

Thanks Dave. You saved me some time looking. Didn't you point out the cap color difference when the original thread was active?
