Hello Everyone

Just managed to add this nice little armband to my German Police collection.

Need some help on this. It is a Military Government Police (Polizei) Arm Band, but I am not sure the area it would have been worn in. First thoughts are British Sector. Simple construction of approx. 3.5" x 17" tan material with black stenciled lettering. UV Dead.

Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated.

Huntzman,

I have not seen this armband before. Here is the Military Government Police brassard that is usually seen. There are photos of this one in wear.

Below is another example in wear for consideration.

Yeah, I am familiar with the MG / MR version. I have also had in my collection, and seen other, patches with the MG and or MR lettering that subsequently replaced the armbands.

After further investigation, this arm band could have been worn in either the American or British sectors. So it is quite possible that this was locally made item.

It is period material.

I think these were all locally made and there are some odd variations. I think you are correct that it could come from either the British or American Zones of Occupation. I know there were several different types worn in the Soviet Zone, so why not in the other occupation zones?

I just have not seen this example before.

It certainly was a very confusing time period following the war. I love the old multilingual patches. Like the Hessen Border police written in German, English & Russian.

I had a fairly extensive post war - present German collection. Unfortunately a divorce in 98 forced me to sell off 75% of it. I am slowly tring to rebuild it. But like everything else, some of those patches are extremely rare.
