Hi all, I am having a few problems with my internet explorer. I have been on IE 7 for the last few weeks with no problems.
Yesterday I ran an update to IE 7 and since I have done this the taskbar that contains my 'favourites' has dissappeared. I also cannot get into Internet options as there is no button showing it and when I try to go Control Panel> Internet Options , I double click it and nothing happens.
It is not a major concern at the moment as I can still get on the web (having to search for my favourites each time I go on) but I would be unable to change my 'homepage' or delete old files/cookies as I cannot get in the tools section.

Any help much appreciated Confused

Sounds like you may have gotten a "Business Version" update. Most companies use a limited version of IE for their employees. It prevents changes to the blocks, firewalls, and history so the company can track usage and prevent virus attacks.

Ian,
Go to add & remove programs and tick the box at the top that says " show updates", scroll down the list and look for the update that you installed and uninstall it, it should roll back to your previous version Smile.

Thanks both for the help.
To cut a long story short I had to undo the system restore that I had done then remove IE 7 to IE 6 and now it is okay. only problem is that my music download program (etomi pro) will not connect and I cannot get music downloads.
Thanks again, Ian

Switch to Firefox - it's MUCH better! … Just my suggestion.

I agree with Walter. After years of being a die-hard Internet Explorer fan, I switched to Firefox and haven't looked back since.

Duh--and how do you do that?
Posted By: NoBoZoS Re: Internet Explorer 7 - 11/04/2006 08:59 PM
Hi Houston

Click this link Get Firefox

download the file to your desktop...when downloaded double click the exe file on your desktop....the program will then install...Resart your computer when the installation is completed.

The first time you use it it will ask if you want it to be the default brower...click ok....

I have IE6 and Firefox. I've used both alternately for the last 6 months and have also had issues with firefox. Some pages take longer to load than IE. Maybe its because I'm still using dial-up.

I found where they hid the Favorites on IE-7.
It's a little orange star in the lower left of the tool bar field.
The whole IE tool bar is now on the bottom of the tool bar field, instead of at the top of the field as it was before.
Toward the center of that bar (which doesn't even look like a tool bar) you click on "show other tabs". Then it becomes clear that this is your new IE tool bar.
It has all of the familiar icons like home, print, and best of all TOOLS with Windows Update, internet options, and so on.
The Refresh botton is the two circular green arrows at the top, right of center.
I hope that this is helpful.

Have any of you figured out how you can maintain or remain logged on to GDC? With IE6, I simply set GDC as my home page, logged in and it kept me logged in until I dumped my Temp file. With IE7, I have to log in each time which means that all forums appear as if they are updated and I haven't read them, also a pain! Mad

I don't use GDC for my homepage but...
I log into the forum selection page with my username and password telling it to remember me, then right click, then click on "create a shortcut". Then the desktop icon takes me back to the same point without re-logging in.
I hope that this helps.

I have found that IE 7 is much slower at finding websites then IE 6. With IE 6 I would just type in a website address and I was there in a split second, but with IE 7 it takes up to 5 seconds and that is really annoying considering that I have a cable connection. Does anybody else find that IE 7 is running slower than IE 6?

And...it always seems that when Microsoft "improves" something there are always bugs with the new version.

That's very true John.
"Improve", then fix, and then patch.
It usually takes them three times to get it right.
I guess their R&D department uses us for the final testing phase.
That's why, more often than not, you're better off if you wait for them to work the bugs out before you install anything new.

IE 7 is crap...It effected several programs I had installed on my comp, so much that I had to do a system restore....

I'll stick with FIREFOX....better, faster and much more secure than any Microsoft product.

IE7...

Open up a browser, then at the top on the right hand side, you should hopefully see a "settings" option. Click on that and scroll to "options". From there, you'll find all your options to include all of the ones you had before on IE6.

IE7 is far better than IE6, you just need to get used to it.

I uploaded Explorer Version 7 on my laptop, and it was a three ring circus.

The most annoying problem was that it would "crash" anytime you went to the address bar and clicked on a recently visited website that was stored there. It would tell you Explorer encountered an error and had to close. Then it does that wonderful Microsoft dance of asking if you want to send the error report to Microsoft.

After sending them about 100 error reports, I figured I had had enough of their new "uprade" and removed it and went back to IE 6.

I had nothing but trouble with IE7...worst of all it kept kicking me off of GDC....Bill Gates got about 100 reports from me to....Back to IE6..

IE7 slows my browsing experience.

and...IE7 froze my friend's computer...it took me a while to figure out what the problem was, but when I removed IE7 from his computer the system ran perfectly.

my theory as to why it froze my friend's computer (which was maybe 4 years old) is that it obviously requires more memory to run and as such is designed for newer machines...another way for MSFT to go out and get you to buy new machines with licensed versions of Windows on these machines. Microsoft has an amazing way of fixing things that are not broken...IE I never understand why they will not just leave things alone. I see no major improvements on IE7, in fact I see a major drawback in that it takes longer to bring up sites.

Guys, not everyone's computer is capable of running IE7, there are minimum system requirements that you need to check first:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/about/sysreqs/default.mspx

Computer/Processor Computer with a 233MHz processor or higher (Pentium processor recommended)

Operating System Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Memory For Internet Explorer 7:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) - 64 MB
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition - 128 MB
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) - 64 MB
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 ia64 - 128 MB

Drive CD-ROM drive (if installation is done from a CD-ROM)

Display Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution monitor with 256 colors

Peripherals Modem or Internet connection; Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device

My laptop had all the system minium requirements, and then some.

IE7 still crashed and gave out error messages like a scorned ex-girlfriend.

I talked to our "computer geek" at work, and he said Microsoft is getting bombarded by customer complaints over version 7.
Posted By: sdp Re: Internet Explorer 7 - 12/05/2006 11:29 PM
Very strange...

I've been using it now for at least 2 to 3 weeks and haven't encountered any problems whatsoever, other than, having to get used to some of the changes/layout.
Posted By: bushido Re: Internet Explorer 7 - 12/07/2006 12:45 AM
Hasn't crashed on me yet but I still can't get around my GDC login problem in that I'm not able to remain logged on to the site but rather, must login ever single time. A small irritant, to be sure, in the grand scheme of things! I did try Robert's suggestion, but it made no difference. I'm starting to think it may be some sort of security protocol that has been uploaded with IE7 that is creating the issue. However, in the mean time, if anyone comes upon a cure for this problem please drop me a line! ~ Ian

It is a problem everywhere....

Here is an article from ComputerWorld:

Like a lot of people, when Microsoft's latest browser was released, I installed it right away. In fact, I installed it on about half a dozen machines. As the days have turned into weeks (soon to be months) since Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7, what has become clear to me and many others is that some Web sites and many Web applications just aren't ready for this new version of the browser. On my computers, that has meant a return to IE6, until the Web and Web-based applications catch up with IE7.
Come on, guys, you're starting to sound like my Bill-Gates-Bashing, Microsoft-hating brother-in-law.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've installed IE7 on dozens of machines, and while I don't necessarily prefer it to IE6, I haven't had any problems that you all are reporting here.

I'd be willing to bet that the source of your IE issues are not caused by IE itself, but by some other issue related to your hardware or OS - such as insufficient memory (even if you have plenty of installed memory, you might have several memory-intensive applicatons running that themselves require a substantial memory investment), malware infestation, or you might even be running some manner of beta bits.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not pooh-poohing any issues that you might be having, I'm simply saying that the source of your problems might not be due to IE itself... after all, my entire office was forced to upgrade to IE7 and nobody's reported any issues thus far (aside from the fact that it's taking a little while to get used to the new layout).
Posted By: Degens Re: Internet Explorer 7 - 01/06/2007 11:09 AM
I installed the beta, pre the full IE7 release and discovered I was unable to uninstall or roll back to a previous version without a full reformat. This put me off IE7 for good and although I realise that it was probably my own fault for risking a beta in the first place I was not impressed with the changes or the apparant upgrade.....IE6 for me, if it aint broke dont fix it!!.
I have also used Firefox & Opera but find something always niggles me and I end up back with IE6.
Personal choice I guess Smile

I also installed 7 and couldnt use a web site I use to check my flying schedule. I also had to reformat. Now I am also careful as to how I install updates. No more auto install for me. I choose "tools" "windows update" and "custom install". I still get IE7 as an update thats needed but I dont choose it and choose the others.

I use both I.E. v.7.0.5730.11 and Mozilla Firefox v.2.0.0.1.
No major problems with I.E. except few crashes but I find Firefox much better - it's absolutely flawless.
In addition the recent update v.2 has build-in spell and grammar checker which is a very important tool for me.
