Another of my great hobbies except the dagger collecting and cigar smoking is to ride my Harley. This is my fourth one,
a Dyna Street Bob -06.
Once you owned a Harley, you dont want to ride anything else !!! This is the ultimate bike.
I am sure we have some bikers among the GDC members, please show me your bikes !!
Have a nice ride, Hakan.

Hakan your bike is so cool. I cut a photo of one of them out of a magazine about a year ago and want one so bad but I haven't been on a bike in almost twenty years! JohnJ
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 03/19/2007 05:43 AM
Gaspare, What kind of bike is yours exactly? I love it, it looks like the kind of bike you can just jump on and ride around town no problem, no hassle. Just looks really comfortable and unintimidating. JohnJ
Hakan that is sweet!
Posted By: Gaspare Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 03/19/2007 01:58 PM
Its a 1942 WLA,,a U.S. Army bike.. Its been vintage raced a few years and been blown up a few times so theres not much left of the Army parts! Big Grin.. Front end is early disc model Sportster. It has many other non standard parts on it to be able to keep up with the faster Triumphs and Nortons an now to be street legal..

Its comfortable,,and fun to ride,,foot clutch,,hand shift keeps you busy!..,G.

I ride a 2002 Road King with Rhinehart 'true dual' exhausts. Nothing like running in the mountains of Tennessee with a loud rumble. I'll post a pic or two later today.

Pic of my 03 Sportster...I bought it in 05...had 930km on the clock!
I've since spent some $$$ to add a few things and do some mods to it....next step is a conversion to 1250CC..some new heads...and I should have me a 110+HP honey.

The pic is when I picked it up....looks so much different now...Unfortunately its to cold to drag it out from its winter slumber to take a "now" pic...

Bikes are great fun!
In another life i was a Triumph and Norton factory technician, as well as a Harley-Davidson service mechanic..this is a little bomb i built years ago..11:1 HCP, one piece crank, titanium rods, 6 speed box,all aircraft grade fasteners ..good for an honest 88 horsepower! pretty good for a brit bike!

I am also one of the few men left on earth who can actually put together a Triumph twin and not have the pushrod tubes leak!!

Attached picture bike~1.jpg
very clean mill..!

Attached picture bike_2~1.jpg
Harry Firth motors on the Danforth was one of the old school Norton Matchless AJS dealers..he was on the board of directors and managed to buy the first 30 production Norton commandos ever built. As every part at the time was going into building up bikes, he immediately had them break 15 of them down into component parts and they shipped the lot to Canada.

the body work is also off the 6th commando ever built, which was silver and red btw!..

Gaspare, your friend should alway have this handy

Attached picture bugs1.jpg
You set up a Triumph twin right, and baby, you can flat out move on them..nimble, fairly light..and loads of torque, they just keep on pulling...

Speaking of appreciating, i have a BSA rocket III in the crate (never opened..) as well as a 1967 bonneville, in the crate..both bought at the great Browns liquidation sale..

Think about this..when i was a kid in the early 70's, you could buy Henderson 4's and Excelsiors, Aces, Vincents and any 50's early 60's Brit bike for $50-$300.00 Canadian. No one wanted them.

At the dealership i worked at we had some of the last 1975 Norton Commando electric start interstates for sale..they sat for years..the basement was full of British bikes taken in on trade against newer Japanese models.

I bought 2 T120-C'S a TR6SS and a basket case '59 bonneville from that shop ..i probably payed no more than $1000.00 for all..now, they want 5x that just for a parted out basket case!

Howdy. Been riding since 1962. Had a 1948 Harley Hummer. Later on, I bought a 1963 Panhead and had it from 1970 till 1981, 1972 Shovehhead FLH, till '89, 1976 FLH till '96, and now I got 2 '76 Sportsters and a late 70's FLH type with a mid 90's Evo motor. Hand-built it myself on a Paughco frame.
Hakan, I see that you, too, like Harley's version of the Totenkopt, and that you, too, are an 81 supporter Wink
Gaspare, thats a nice 45. I had a bunch of them back in the 70's
Vicdiehl, your Dad's bike is a 1930's Harley VL.
I now own a bike shop called Shelby County Customs and we build the Orange County type bikes but not nearly as radical or expensive!
Someday, I will figger out how to put some photos on this thing Confused Billy

Billy
Posted By: Gaspare Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 05/06/2007 01:46 PM
As the Evo motors are starting to get older and beat I'm doing more and more motor work on them..Don't like them,,mainly because poor hardware, poor component materials, and a few 'engineering problems' [oil breather vent into Carb aircleaner?!]..But once sorted out they do run good and leak very little oil! Big Grin...

anyway,,,The H-D dealer around by me gets $90. an hour last time I checked,,and almost double on some of the same parts I offer to my customers..So all the smaller shops that do good work around have been doing very well the last few years....

NoBoZos,,,last week we did a 1991 Sportster,,put in a Andrews cam set,,Wiesco BigBore to 1200,,Carb kit/ mods.,complete ignition system, new pushrods, and a complete rebuilt head with all new components [Andrews & Black Diamond],all fluids changed,,*Total price parts and labor was not over $3500... Whats something like that go for in any of your guys neck of the woods?? , thanks , G.

Hi Gaspare

I believe my HD dealer does the conversion for about 1500.00...that's just for the jugs and pistons....and labour..I've seriously considered the 1250cc kit from NRHS...Axtell jugs and NRHS Hurricane forged pistons....brings the compression up to 10.5:1 with stock 883 heads.. I have already put on an SE ignition and coil, SEII+ pipes, and NRHS Hurricane Flow AC and a head breather kit....I'll probably upgrade the ignition and look at either installing SE heads or polished and ported Buell XB heads...
Sure sounds like you guys do some really nice work there...

He lives in Brooklyn where the roads are always full, traffic jams etc..
Nice slim profile, like a knife. For sliding inbetween cars and splitting lanes!

Gaspare-the Harley isn't a rat bike by any means. Looks pretty good for a odds & ends job. Is that a bulldog from a Mack truck adorning the tail light? Neat Trumpet too, my first chopper I built back in high school was a 64 Tiger. Would like to have a old 57 pre-unit to build nowdays, but haven't seen one in ages.
Posted By: Gaspare Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 11/20/2007 02:40 AM
OKCm,,good eyes!,yeah Mack truck bulldog.....

Pre unit Triumphs aren't on the streets of NYC to much lately. Worth too much now! Same with parts, almost non existent and super expensive. Repros out there of tin but they are junk..

My latest and 5th Harley..'09 Heritage Softail with two tone black ice and blue ice paint. Traded in my '08 Ultra as it was getting too heavy and I wanted to roll in the curves a little faster.

Curves faster with a Harley?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 03/18/2009 05:33 AM
No, this bike is just lighter than the previous one I had and it does allow you to take long sweeping curves with a more safe feeling.

OKCMIKE..know why you don't see any good stock Pre-unit Triumph's anymore ?

..'cause a ton of them were sacrificed for choppers back in the late sixties and early seventies!!!

I've had a wack load of them over the years..i once bought a chopper basket case for the engine and found out the mill was the 9th Triumph Bonneville off the line!

Blasphemy! Big Grin

Of course, in high school Brit bikes were long past their day, and could be had for $200.00, put another $100.00 into them and we rode them till they blew up.For some reason Matchless was really big in my area, and there was a ton of G-15's around.

My most favourite bike was a 1961 TR-6C, bought out of the junkyard for $50.00 bucks, along with a bathtub T-110 basketcase..those were the days..!
Posted By: OKCmike Re: Gentlemen, show me your Harley´s !!! - 03/25/2009 12:04 AM
Doug- Yep, I was quilty of that myself. Wow, 9th Bonnie. off the line, hope ya put it in an original frame. I always liked Triumph's except for the electrical system, Lucas: Prince of Darkness as it was known back then. Always would liked to have a V.B.S. also, but had to settle for building a model, pictured in photo.
Regards- Mike

My 97 Wide Glide and my home made 05 Chopper...enjoy

Pitbull, those are some sharp-looking scoots! Love the Wide-Glide, not really into chops, but if you built it yourself, you should be very proud! I just recently fulfilled a 37 year dream by buying a 2009 Sporty 1200 Low! Regards, Leipzig
Hello All, when I was a senior in high school in 1974, I bought my first bike, a 1973 Honda CL350 "Scrambler". It had the "twisty" pipes that ran up the left-hand side, as opposed to the CB350 that had the down pipes. I really thought I was something until one day at school, a guy I knew comes up and says, I hear you bought a bike, I say yeah, he says me too. I say, whatcha' buy, he says, a brand new 1974 H-D Sporty! Well, my jaw hit the ground, and I've been wanting one ever since. Rode dirt for a while, racing motocross with a '75 RM 125 Suzuki. Quit riding around 1980. Fast forward to 2011, I turned 55 this year and thought, man, I'm half-way to 60! If I don't get me a Sporty now, I never will, I'll be too decrepit! So, in June I fulfilled a 37 year dream and bought a 2009 Sportster 1200 Low, with just a tic over 4000 miles. I always loved the bare-bones, no-frills look of the Sporty's. This thing is a torque-monster, all balls! I only weigh 160 lbs. it does'nt even know I'm on it! No good for touring, but for putting around the back country roads where I live it's a blast! Okay you bikers [not just H-D's] let's get this thread rolling again! Attached are some pics, Regards, Leipzig

Thanks Mike... Wrong topic though for my baby..

This is H-D only... Lost all the photos of my Shovels,,,and only have this survivor shot of my Flattie. 45 cubic inch [750cc]. Made from half civilian parts and most internals were from WWII surplus. Still in cosmoline in their original boxes!

This was my rough rat for a while,,my chopper, and last was a vintage flat tracker I tried to beat Triumphs on wink
This is its last version,,street tracker.
Sold it a year before the flood. IF I would have still had it I was going to move it to a 'safe' garage across town. This 'safe' spot got 3 foot water ,,would have lost it!

[showed this before in one of the back pages here]
