PS: I am somewhat sceptic about the hanger which I believe is added to the dagger later on.
Has anyone here ever seen this hanger with this RZM symbol ???

You lucky, lucky man. A very nice dagger!

The hanger looks OK and it is for the dagger not a sword.

I think you better look again Jim-with glasses on .SS Sword hangers have snaps-this one has a box fitting. Wittmann's/Shea's are nothing like this one here at all.

Houston: I will accede to your broader knowledge. However; I don't remember seeing a teardrop dagger hanger before and I've seen a lot of chained SSs in the 8 short years I've been collecting. I looked at the one on my SS sword and if you changed the upper fitting it could be used either way. My cameras out of commission at the moment but I'll post pictures when I can. However; I would think this arrangement would make the dagger even more unstable then it normally is with the gimpy fittings. Just my opinion. Jim

This type dagger hanger is VERY well known and shown in many references. I don't know about some of you guys sometimes. Where are your books?

Houston: I have a bookcase full of them including Johnsons complete set and Wittmann SS tome. The only difference I can see with the posted teardrop hanger attached to the above chained SS dagger and the one attached to my SS sword is the upper fitting which I could change in about one minute. This is the only picture I can get to at the moment because my camera is on the fritz.

Houston is absolutely spot-on. Though, like much of the leather, both connector straps and hangers, they didn't seem to be as attractive to the Vets as the daggers themselves and were often just left behind. I've seen this particular type of hanger strap on both SS daggers and the SA Honor dagger. Then as shown in Jesper's photo, it is the dagger that clips to the hanger, whereas in Jim's photo, it is the hanger that clips to the sword. By the way Jesper, beautiful dagger! ~ Ian

There are a number of slight but clear differences between the SS/Police type sword hanger and the dagger type. The box fitting is sewed in and can not be easily changed from or to a snap. The snap is the same-not easily changed. Now of course it is possible to change one to another but a hand examination should reveal this. The sanp on these usually have a two prong metal device on the back that fits through a hole in the leather on the front side. These prongs are bent over and the back leather part of the hanger is sewed over covering these. So -if the snap is removed-it leaves a hole. The dagger hanger is also quite a bit shorter, a bit stubby and usually thicker-and almost always has the belt loop attached. If you put these side by side the differences are quite easy to see.

I see the differences that are being pointed out. I will take pictures of my hanger when my replacement camera arrives next week. Whatever the case may be this is a lousy method of attaching a dagger with a chained fitting; where the fitting itself is gimpy to begin with. I guess that's why I'm used to seeing these with a simple D ring and a loop. You wouldn't have this problem with a sword with a single scabbard ring and a teardrop hanger. If you wish to find out for yourself and own one of these strap a dagger on with it and wear it for a day.Anyway JMO.

hi all, my understanding is that these hangers are rarer than hen's teeth. straight d rings seem to be the norm, but these tear drops are out there! mine is marked 60/41 rzm.

I might have a guy who will buy the dagger tomorrow. Otherwise I will put it in the GDC Bazaar section by this time tomorrow.

REALLY GREAT Because of the doubts regarding the originality of the hanger to the dagger - the questions if the hanger should be together with the dagger - I just GAVE AWAY a NICE hanger for practically NOTHING and lessened the value of my dagger. In other words I split up a nice hanger from it's dagger. Sometimes questions JUST shouldn't be posed !!! Jesper

I know !!! It's not - and I underline NOT - a question about money. It's the question about splitting up a couple that have been together for over 70 years. Bugger Jesper

Who are you angry with ? Nobody asked you to split the dagger and hanger, I think Houston's comments were fairly clear
