ONE thing to note they all had insignia at one time . Does anyone has photos of these in wear in afghanistan especially with insignia. I have seen pics of them wearing m35s or 42 but they have not shown up in the markets.

Cool helmets. Looks like that Iraqi might be the older style helmet as in Iran/Iraq war era. I have a direct vet given one. I know there are guys digging out WWII Soviet helms as well in original configuration.

A friend of mine served in Afghanistan right at the start (SF and a fellow Collector) ..he found a Cave up North full of Lebel Rifles , Adrian Helmets and French ammo pouches. Another Cave had a stack of orig rusty Springfield Trapdoors ...they were allowed to take home one each because they were over 100 years old ..first time I ever heard that rule ..maybe just for Special Forces ? Bannerman must have had quite a few customers over there in the old days.

According to a military man I know...SF are not bound by US customs etc. and therefore have a very long leash regarding what they can take home/carry back on the person!

That explains it ..but there seems to be confusion about Iraqi War Souvenirs too. I just got a box full of "stuff" from Iraq and , the Soldier told me that as long as he had a Hadji write him a reciept , it was legal for him to ship boxes of stuff home , and he did. I've picked up quite a bit this year and never really intended to start an Iraqi collection .. It's nice getting it from the Soldiers who brought it home though.

Here is the one photo I've managed to track down.
The interesting thing is that I can't find any details on WHEN these helmets made it to Afghanistan. It is very interesting.

It seems the Iraqi Soldiers were easily confused when it came to Uniform parts so ...the labeled them , that's really nice huh? Wouldn't want them wearing the wrong thing on their Head right ?

Here's the 1st Lt "Special" Republican Guard Uniform ....the common RG had the red triangle on each shoulder as well but without the Arabic writing. These "Special " RG were closer to Saddam ..I think they were the same Sect and from the same region as Saddam. Not sure what special duties they had

The badge is two prongs, but they're think metal, and very slim. They have about 100 bends in them too. So it appears these were on and off of helmets.
My personal theory is that the badges weren't normally worn on day to day, but were for parades and such.

Paul, Afghanistan seems to have some wild stuff hanging around. They found a French WW I tank in a junkyard there. It currently is now in the US being restored. Rare French Tank Being Taken to U.S.

actually there where three of them there all in various states of plunder. The US actually asked permission to remove them back to the states which was granted. These where widely used by the USA during WW1 and after.

These are from Baghdad a few years ago and you can see they still retain that horrible talcum type sand/dust that likes to stick to everything. All are the modern design with the exception of the old one on the far right. (Iran war era) The one second from left now sits on my shelf.

Paul, how hard is it to find these helmets in Afghanistan today? What use have they seen after they retired from the military?

This is the problem. The helmets are plentiful. The badges are the hard part. Sadly no. My advice, watch eBay and see if you can find a rusted shell with the badge. This badge and my Irish helmet badges were honestly two things I didn't think I'd ever find.

Very nice collection. I like the different covers. Is the Iran-Iraq War helmet stell or Kevlar? And I know that dust. I think in 10 years I'll see feel it every time I pick up my helmet.
