just recently had the wonderful opportunity to purchase this unique medal, document and photo group directly from the family in Germany. I usually collect helmets, but I just could help it when I was offered this as a group.

It is for a soldier that served throughout the war in 2. Kompanie Grenadier-Regiment 424. The Group consists of:

Close Combat Clasp in Bronze with Document
EKII with Document
Infantry Assault Badge in Silver with Document
Russian Front Medal with Document
Silver Wound Bade Document
Black Wound Badge Document
Ribbon bar with EKII and Russian Front Medal
4 original photos, including a studio portait photo with above ribbon bar.

The Infantry Assault Badge is not maker marked, and of the "scoop-back" kind.

Both award documents for Silver and Black Wound badges are present, while the badges themselves are missing. I also got a photo of Gefreiter Pohler in his hospital bed after being wounded surrounded by pretty nurses.

A couple of more photos that came along. Thr first one I believe is taken in France. I notice it is before he was awarded the EKII.

The second I have no clue where is, but it has a handwritten text on back.

Yes, usually the documents and photos are the last things to go after the medals and awards have been sold off or lost over the years. Although it is missing the wound badges, these may be replaced as long as they are noted as such. As I mentioned, I am not a medal collector, but I felt it was important to keep this group together for the future. I was first offered the medals and awards, and it wasn't until I asked specifically about the awards and photos that they came on the table. Otherwise this group would have been split as well.

What a fantastic group Erik ..you were lucky to get it. Did you ask them if there's anything else available ..maybe his ID's or other pictures mixed into another album ?

I have asked the family for anything such as insignia, other medals, documents, soldbuch, etc that relates to his service. They said this is all that was. When it came to the photos, they first didn't want to sell the originals, as he afterall was a family member. But after some back and forth they agreed to sell me some of the original photos. Problem with photos is that they are relatively cheap, and what you can pay for them may not always be attractive for family members to rip their family photo albums apart. But the family is well aware to contact me if something should show up, expecially the missing wound badges or a soldbuch.

I am now debating with myself if I shall dispose of this group to part finance an upcoming helmet I am expecting....

Erik
