Several features I can see in the pics let me think it is an original police (Schutzpolizei) bajonet out of the period. But additional pics from the stampings (are there any?) and the reverse of the grip as details of the rivets would be necessary for a more serious statement. Regards,

Thomas,
Looks like a nice original cut down, slotted variety Schupo bayonet with NCO knot. Two questions, does the grip emblem have any wiggle when touched & does the rear scabbard fitting have numbers matching the crossguard stamping?

I hate to say it but I think this bayo has a couple of problems. I have a lot of these bayonets and have examined many over the years. It's an original bayonet but I see two things--- I think the scabbard has been shortened perhaps to hide a split seam at the top. If you cut the leather off at the top you need more length so the lower fitting was moved down on the leather exposing the lower part of the scabbard that is lacking the two edge lines. If you look closely at that bad looking area of the seam at the lower part you will probably find two staple holes that they tried to hide where the lower fitting used to be. The other thing is the push button lock assembly. I think it has been replaced. All the Police Bayonets I can remember seeing have a more rounded push button--and the lock piece on the reverse does not fit perfectly as it should. I think this lock is from a KS 98-- they sometimes have push buttons that are less rounded than on the police ones. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Houston,
I think you have something there, not that I'm surprised you caught it. If you look at the picture with the reverse drag (picture 11), you can make out what looks like a perpendicular crease above the drag, maybe it's an inch & a half above the top. Any chance that was done period?
I didn't necessarily consider the wear on the reverse of the key as bad but you mentioned fit, taken in conjunction with the squared off appearance on the pommel button. It seems to bear a resemblance to the ones on those fake WKC police bayonets with light colored stag/wood grips.

Now with these requested, additional pics Houston seems to be quite right. An in hand inspection would have revealed this in the moment. The NOT flush fit of the button lock assembly on the reverse of the grip is prominent. Also the use of a longer variant of the rivet on the bottom fitting of the scabbard seems to proof Houstons observations. Regards,
