AS has been said many times here about these "Gestapo" coats: The Germans made literally tons of this style coat from the 1920s through the 1950s at least.

Periodically there were worn by Gestapo men, agents of the Army Abwehr, ordinary police detectives - AND vast numbers of regular civilians. 'Coz theye were civilian attire after all!

From time to time, military officers wore these over their uniforms but not often - since they had access to military leather coats that were about identical to the cloth ones. Seemed to depend on how casual their superiors were...

In short, Hollywood made this ordinary garment "Gestapo." They're worth a few hundred dollars at most. Needless to say, they weren't worn with breast eagles!
