No, it is not the maker. It is German and means "chromium plated".

I've seen this mark a few times, usually condition hasn't been to good. I don't think I have seen one that had stag grips.

Gents,

This marking is a good representation that some KS98 were chromium plated as well as the usual nickel plating. Some collectors believe that blades were only nickel plated prior to 1945 but the chrome plating process was well known prior to the war.

This is a nice variation with this marking. Any maker mark in addition to the chromium marking?

Doc,
A wonderful piece you have there. As Terry pointed out, I've only seen a few also. It being stag, It would be an extremely nice piece to have. I was kind of wondering the same thing George thought. I've never seen one with a TM, that I can remember. I can tell you a bit more on these. At the time period Walther used it on their PP and PPk's as a type of finish that was other than nickle or chrome, but still had a little brightness that did not rust. it's kind of compared to a silver satin type finish. It's funny how some of the rifles and pistols can be marked with DRP, RFV, etc., and they all go together in each of our seperate areas, and they do overlap. Steve.
