well these medals normally are made of zink and show it. This medal shows wear but has no detail on the eagle's breast AND THERE IS NO WEAR ON THE REVERSE, I am very suspicious it looks to good .

I have seen zinc versions of these. I do not think mine is. Will have to dig it out and scan it.

actually the medal is probably okay seems my maker one of the few that detailed the eagle any others I note have no details on the bird

Note the excess solder at the base of the ring and the scratches on the reverse that were in all probability done by someone testing to see if it was silver.

This thread got me thinking . . . I'm not sure if mine is zinc or silver plated brass/tombac, but it seems to be developing a bluish patina. Here is a scan of its front and back. ~ Ian
