Many thanks to Keith Francis Baumont from "The Last Reich" who obtained this rare Allgemeine Mantel,Tunic and Headgear all named to the same enlisted man in the LAH via an octogenarian collector in France for me to be the custodian for a while!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HOOPER

Ok, you've been custodian for long enough...my turn! Seriously though Stephen, that is one outstanding ensemble. It's indeed encouraging to know that stuff like this is still around for collectors to discover.
Cheers,
Darryl

Robert, On the rear skirt of this mantel they are slightly smaller than breast buttons and are bigger than ones on the other Mantels which have the size of Officers chin cord buttons,,,,
CurtD, They are slightly grey rather that white and have a yellow tinge to the outer circle that I cant seem to capture with an image. The armband on the Mantel is of slightly thinner construction than on the Rock. It is also interesting that the Mantels that I have, have never had ones without the back border stripes! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Stephen

Mantel,,belt. There are of course various details to the rear that are present on this and my others and are quite unique to these items of wear. I would assume they on all other original Allgemeine mantels too, saying that because of our reproduction friends I would not be willing to show on an open forum!,,,,,,,regards Stephen

RE: the armbands. Are the black borders made of ribbed, rayon tape? It doesn't look that way from the pics.
SS regulations stated that all SS armbands should wear the black stripes. I don't know who started this stripeless greatcoat theory, but so far no one has shown any evidence for it.
I don't doubt that someone may have worn the stripeless by mistake (or whatever), but it was not official.

From what I remember, the myth got started from the mistakes on pages 30 & 31 in the old 1974 Ballantine "SS Regalia" book. A nice color reference for the time (1974), but the printer reversed the captions on those pages, & then went on to depict a plain Party armband w/o black edge stripes saying that it was 'for greatcoats'.

Excellent acquisition Hooper. I have been looking for a set up like that for over two years now. Some are on websites, but...... Anyways, congratulations on a simply gorgeous score there (and with RZM tags!) wunderbar.
Congratulations DC
