During the course of our collecting path we may sometimes acquired blades with non-original scabbards. Sometimes these looks to be a periodically paired. I wonder what will you do in such situation ? Will you match it up with a correct scabbard or leave it as is ? Smile

it depends. I collect only polish bayonets, so if I have german revorked blade in german scabbard and frog I leave it as I found.
But when I find "untouched" piece I try to match a proper, polish scabbard with all correct signs.

Tomasz,

Interesting that what triggers me to ask this question is a 37' 98K that came with a Polish scabbard. It is common to see a Polish blade with a 98K scabbard but not vice versa.

The bayonet in question has a thin layer of rust which is in the same condition as the scabbard. I checked the wear marks and they match up pretty well. Actually I bought this set solely for the scabbard but now I decided to keep them as is.

Anyone else ?

Keith

Hi Andy,

The bayonet is a 37' Clement & Jung serial 728c. Information has been forwarded to you earlier. The scabbard is unmarked except Eagle 77 at the side, from what I known this scabbard was for WZ.28. The waffenamt was done at the Radom factory.

Regards,

Keith

Keith

I have two or three 98k's in polish scabbards, but have not a single Polish in a German one, weird how peopel see completly different things despite essentally collecting the same thing. Me i keep original pairings together usually but have been know to swap theodd one around - i.e.98K military in a police scabbard witll get swapped around for a polish issue 98k in a Polish or other scababrd. DOnt bother to pair makers marks as a rule unless of course i ever come across a mismatched pair that will make a single matcer
