The 2 is for small rose pattern. I had a Tiger P+D army in small rose and it was marked 2 and a large tiger P+D in large rose that had a different number. And have seen this 2 on other small rose pattern daggers. Before they put them in a acid bath it was hard to tell what pattern was what. It is not a assembly number. I will look and see if i can find the pictures again. Anyway the daggers when I owned them are pictured in a Johnson book. Sold them over 16 years ago!! Regards: Damast

Hi Damas,

Thanks for the info as I first thought that the "2" was an assembly number.
Never knew that the "2" was meant for the small rose pattern.
Would you know in which of Johnson's book your's was listed in ?
That would be real cool, if this Tiger was the one that you used to own.
Danke !

My collecting changed to imperial damascus swords and I sold the books (not thinking there). I have things in the Imperial book and in the 3rd Reich books I know I have things in vol 4 and I think in vol 5 or 6 Regards: Damast J.B.

The dagger was bought about 19 years ago from a picker in WI. I guess after the vet I was the 2nd owner. I gave him cash a few Imperial Navy daggers (when people were not paying a great deal for them) and a small iron cross collection. Regards: Damast

Well Pat:
It's now your mission should you choose to accept it to go out into the hinterlands and spare no time or expense in the quest for blade No 1! Smile
Lets face it. You will not get a good nites sleep until you find No. 1. You will lay there nites tossing and turning wondering where it might be.
Toyotas will go unsold. You will ignore your family and take to drink* Roll Eyes if you don't locate it.
I'll give you an easy way out. Ship No 2 to me and your cares will be over. Your amigo south of the border. Big Grin Wink
*Well perhaps take to more drink would be more accurate!

Not too big a surprise. There just are not many of these around. It's a reminder that all our stuff is just "loaned" to us for a little while. It would be interesting to see where this dagger has been-all the custodians over the years-perhaps not too many. Good little project paper to go with the dagger Pat-for the next "owner" Big Grin

Gentlemen,

I did contact privately Damast and I did get the whole story behind my Damascus dagger.
This dagger was indeed originally Vet acquired by M. James Brown aka: Damast ( not the pop singer ) Big Grin. in the 80's.
For those that have Johnson's book, my dagger is pictured on page 101, volume VII.
As stated in the book, the dagger was in M. Brown's collection at the time.
Getting this rare piece and being also listed in a reference book, just makes it even more special to my eyes.
I now also have the whole story behind it, from the time it was Vet acquired till it get's here, to the Great White North. Smile

As Houston said, these are so rare that it is of no surprise in a sense, that my dagger is the one being pictured in the book.
I also looked at Witmann's Army book, and there is not even a single example of a Tiger Damascus being pictured.

Like most in this hobby I buy, sell and trade all the time as I get duplicates and as my interests have changed.
However I do have certain select items that are part of what I consider to be my "permanent collection"(Primarily SS*) that I would only sell if I were in dire straights.
How many of you have items that you wouldn't normally part with?
*For example; I only have a few examples of the military daggers. N.B. I'd probably have more if I could keep a certain prominent dealer out of my reserve stash! Big Grin
