Hey guys im new to this forum i have had a good look at what some have you have managed to collect, really amazing stuff. i would really like to start collecting myself. could anyone give me some ideas of where i should look to buy a ring, genuine not copy. i did find a site that had all kinds of ww2 military stuff from all different countries. i just cannot seem to find it again. they seemed to be legit items given the prices to. When i try google specific items i come up with ebay and other online auctions and well when i see prices of $50 and no bids i tend to think they are just copies..
Id like to find somewhere with set prices where i can just buy it no bidding.. any help or links would be really appreciated..

Try Andy who owns www.militarynut.comHe has a banner advertisement on this site and is a very honorable man, plus a close friend of Don Boyle...you need Don's letter saying he has inspected the ring and says, in writing, that it is good before you buy any SS Honor Ring. Welcome and Good Luck! Mark

Andy is at the top of the heap when it comes to honesty in this hobby. He is one of the few I would buy a TK ring from without first getting a letter from Don. I'm hoping there's going to be a really overdue shakeout in this hobby this year. Jim

Hi guys thanks for all the replys. the prices are definatly a lot higher then i expected. i think it may be a little hard for me to be a collector of any of these things given the prices. Perhaps i would be better off trying to locate some uncoverd bunkers on some smaller islands and hope there is some things left in them. then again at best it would have to be glass or stainless steel really..

To possess identifiable personal items is a feeling that makes all this collecting worthwhile and takes it to a whole new level. The SS Honor Ring, when papered by Don Boyle is one of the few connections we have back to a known person. Good guy or bad guy?......Evil always sells for more. Good hunting! Mark

Yeah im going to try save enough to buy something. im guessing some of you guys started collecting when it was maybe more affordable. i seriously would like to explore some old bunkers or try find some area not opened since the war. they defiantly exist. i spent some time on a small island near solomon islands. i found a few bunkers that still had all the cutlery and cooking utensils left behind. at the time i was only 16 and did not have a great deal of interest in collecting and from what i can remember it was Japanese occupation items left. i sure would be interested in exploring some areas that were occupied by germany. Has anyone on here ever had the chance to visit anything of interest...

I would think European bunkers are pretty well picked over.As far as buying when things were less expensive that never happened as salaries were less (in my time any way)My SS Boker cost me $800 in the early '80 .Were things more plentiful yes and there were still vet finds.

In the early 1980's $800.00 was equal to $4775.00 in todays money.

If you are searching for private purchase rings, not only for SSTK rings you should have a look on ebay. If you know, what you are searching for and have a little knowledge youll often find some good, rare rings!

I would also contact member John Pepera because he also has a nice selection of original rings.

Andy is just plain HONEST. You need not worry when dealing with Him. He is Straight Foward. No B.S. Once you deal with Him, you'll be a lifetime customer. He stands behind his stuff. His word is Bond.
And besides all the above, He's a Great Guy!
"Honourable, Honest & Knowledgeable" is the best way to discribe him.

These are private purchase rings. Each branch, each soldier could buy them.

tomahawk / Tom,,welcome to the forum.. There are a few other ring sites to view rings.. No guide yet. I've been working on and off for 6 years now on a guide. Still have a few months but can actually see it being done this year. It's a massive undertaking with 100s or rings in it. Even with that number I just scratched the surface as there are 100s of different designs of private purchase rings out there. Keeps it interesting .. Many skull rings had the option to have 'Gems' put into the eyes. They were mainly cut glass with red seeming to be the favorite color. Even if not offered you could always have brought your skull to your local jeweler back then and he could have added them in for a very small price.
