Here is my find for the weekend. The sword is not in great shape, but I love stuff that is documented, and the shipping container makes it even better.

The sword is signed, but I still need to research it. I think the soldier that sent it home was in the 43rd Infantry Div, but still confirming.

What do you think?
(Hopefully pic will work)

Nice sword. I have an old sword withthe handle wrap very much like yours. Could we see a better pic or the handle please?

Thanks.
The handle is all wood. Appears to have been made as a field replacement for the original.
Can't tell if it was done before or after it was captured, but it looks quite old and looks like it was made for use rather than appearance.

Thanks. I guess I should have been able to figure that out when you said it was made in Manchuria. Red Face My brain wasn't quite in gear.

Given the condition isn't very good, I assumed any value would come from the interesting papers and shipping tube. The blade is dark, but doesn't seem to be pitted.

Any idea what the blade is worth in this condition? (I do not plan to sell, but curious)

Should I do anything to conserve or restore the blade?
