I just found an image of a 1942 two-tone wood target with the R T Renault tank format. On the back is a partial "Gesetzlich KRICO Geschutzt" brand sticker.

The 1960 KRICO brand mark does not have "Gesetzlich Geschutzt" (legally protected).

Note on page 1, that my 1938 3rd Panzer, two-tone wood target with the R T Renault tank format has the "Gesetzlich KRICO Geschutzt" brand sticker on the back.

Krico is the brand name of the German firm of Krieqeskorte GmbH. The company has a history dating back to 1878.

The two targets are also the same size: 15 1/2" or about 39.5 CM.

Wetzel,

I don't know what you mean? Most maker marks don't have it, But a product of the company might have patent pending.

"The 1960 KRICO brand mark does not have "Gesetzlich Geschutzt" (legally protected)."

"Gesetzlich Geschutzt" (legally protected) is missing from the KRICO brand mark as early as 1957.

It's my guess that "Gesetzlich Geschutzt" on the KRICO brand sticker may date the item to 1945 or before.

Here is an image from a 1961 KRICO advertisement.

Yes, the back of target shows it is probably made of Sperrholz (plywood) with a narrow piece of wood added.

I sent an email to the German firm of Krieqeskorte GmbH asking about the KRICO brand sticker. I did get a reply from Arndt Kriegeskorte who wanted to know what model tank was on the target.

I sent back an email informing Herr Kriegeskorte that the tank was a French R T Renault tank from late WW1.

Herr Kriegeskorte then sent back a PDF file of the 1910 catalog from his company and a picture of a circa 1940 German stick grenade marked "Kriegeskorte & Co. KRICO Stuttgart D.R.G.M.".

The 1910 catalog shows pistoles and rifles but no targets.

Here are the emails from Herr Kriegeskorte:

"Dear Mr. Wetzel,

From my daughter I received your inquiry about the KRICO-logo on your Schützenscheibe.

Now my question to you: – Do you now the model of the tank shown on the Schützenscheibe?

Might be interesting for you: My father was in companionship with general Clay.

So KRICO became in 1949 the first company in Germany producing barrels again.

If you are interested in more information about the KRICO history, you may contact me.

Best regards

Arndt Kriegeskorte"

"Dear Mr. Wetzel,

thank you for the information about the tank.

In attachment I send you a catalog from 1910.

After the lost wars a lot of documentation has been destroyed.

The picture of the Stielgranate I got from Italy.

It’s from about 1940.

I’m very sorry, but I have no further pictures of targets my ancestors traded.

Best regards

Arndt Kriegeskorte"

It was very kind of Herr Kriegeskorte to reply to my emails.

Wetzel,

Krico now is a import export and storage company. I have used them they are very good company. I had asked that question a long time ago and they told me as well about Targets. The Krico horse shoe and hunting dog you will also find on targets. Clay Kaserne in Berlin brings back a lot of memories. Best!

I'm not normally into newer targets but just love the fighting Eagles scene which we also find on Honor cups.

Mikee,

thanks for posting so many interesting items on this thread. Thanks also for pointing out the fact that "The Krico horseshoe and hunting dog you will also find on targets".

This "horseshoe and hunting dog" image can be seen on the bottom of the 1910 Junghans & Kriegeskorte catalog. While researching Junghans & Kriegeskorte I found a site with 165 Schutzenscheiben from the 1920's to present.

One target is from 1935, made of cardboard and has a hollow rivet hanger just like my 1944 Lamsdorf target.

Here is the link for the 165 targets: https://schuetzen-iphofen.de/bilder/

Hey Wetzel,
Thank you for posting them. I know that site and believe me there is a whole bunch more, lots more and in fact almost endless. Every club has many of them hanging on their walls... The older hand carved targets are really something. Just for info, the older round hole rivet hangers that you mention come in different sizes and types as well as the triangle type hanger and they are still made and used today. But yes we see these mostly on older targets. It's great to find them with the old hardware still intact, but they do fall off and a new hanger is used.

Here is a 1936 target just like the one from that site.

Mikee,

I would like to see more Schutzenscheiben listed in period catalogs from the 1920's to 1940's.
